Opening statement

That was a Nice workmanlike effort. There’s no question about that. Davidson is a team that can really shoot the basketball and they missed several shots early they normally make. Perhaps, that made em stress a little bit more. They shot 24% in the first half. I just watched the tape of their Charlotte game where they made everything; over 50% from three. Gibbs in that game made his first 14 shots. I think our defense had a little to do with it, but I also think that they missed shots they normally make. And I do think that over the course of the whole first half, that bothered them a lot. Second half they started out making a lot more shots and I was not pleased with what we were doing defensively. It was a tie game in the second half for a while and then I think we outscored them by ten. I like our balance. We had five guys in double figures; we got ten guys in double figures in minutes. Big guys, if you include Justin, with Brice, Kennedy and Joel, they had 13 of our 15 turnovers. We’ve got to stop turning it over. We’ve got to set legal screens. We work all the time about not leading with your shoulder when you’re turning to make and so we had three offensive fouls. Can’t turn the basketball over, our big guys can’t do that. But rebounding, Kennedy had 7 rebounds in the first 10 minutes of the game and ended up with 10 and 9. I thought it was a total team effort for us. We gotta a lot of good things from a lot of people. No question that Nate acted like the Microwave out there for a while coming in and gave us a big lift in the first half.

On guys doing different things, nine different guys has assists

We’re a good passing team. 21 - 15 on assist to turnover ratio and you take Kennedy, who had two charging fouls, Brice had a charging foul and an offensive foul and an illegal screen. Joel had an illegal screen, so that’s a bunch of your turnovers right there. So if you do a better job with that part of it, it really a great game with assist to turnover ratio. In stretches we were active defensively and not quite as active as we were the other night against Maryland. But at times we did some good things. You have to be alert to teams that can shoot the ball as well as they do.

On the progress of Nate making the adjustment and given you positive effort with limited minutes since Marcus has come back

He really has. He started out the first three or four games, I thought he was sensational. And then he had a couple of games where he didn’t play as well. And then the last two games, I thought he really played well. It’s always my objective when I put a guy in the game, for him to help the team; give us something positive. There’s no question I thought that Nate did that. We’ve been getting that from Isaiah and a couple of other guys too, we didn’t get it as much from Isaiah today, but we certainly got it from Nate.

On what part of Nate’s game has improved the most

We, you know, last year was the first year we changed him from left to right hand. I think if you asked anybody on our team or Coach Davis or anyone, two guys that worked the hardest on their shot in the off season was Joel Berry and Nate and it shows up in the season. I think his assist to error ratio, what did he have today, 1 and 0, his assist to error ratio is better than it was last year too. Nate and Joel keeping Marcus, all three, by being able to rotate those guys, would have someone fresh that could pressure the ball out on the court a little bit and I think that help’s us too.

On Jack Gibbs being on that Charlotte tape you watched was making everything

He made his first 14 shots.

On what you wanted to do against him

Guard Him!!!!! You look at the stats and talk to Bob about this because I don’t try to coach their team, but he hadn’t shot it extremely well the whole year except that game. He was 6 for 7 that game and I think before that he was 6 for 25 from the three point line. He was an emphasis for us, there’s no question; but a guy that makes 14 in a row, you better emphasis him. Again, I think everybody did a better job on the ball. We didn’t have to help as much so that leaves guys open for three point shots. Gibb and Sullivan and Peyton Aldridge, that’s three guys who’ve made 6 three’s, either in a game against us or the game before us.
