Roy with another accomplishment

WINNING in a tough conference is the actual factor because there is a large number of coaches that are just IN the conference!

Congrats to Roy!
One of the greatest and most underappreciated coaches in history!

He's also one win shy of 800 wins. That's pretty special too. Puts him in the top 10 all time for D1 mens coaches, rarified air.
Some other interesting notes I've come across, assuming the Heels get another win in the near future:

- Coach Williams will be the 9th Division I men's basketball coach to reach 800 career victories. The others are Jim Boeheim, Jim Calhoun, Bob Knight, Mike Krzyzewski, Jim Phelan, Adolph Rupp, Dean Smith, and Eddie Sutton.

- Coach Williams will be the second-fastest Division I men's basketball coach to 800 wins, trailing only Adolph Rupp. Rupp got his 800th win in his 972nd game. With a win against Syracuse, Williams would do it in 1,012 games.

- Coach Williams will be the third men's college basketball coach to hit the 800-win milestone this season. Former Villanova coach Rollie Massimino (now at Keiser University) notched his 800th win in mid-December and Bob Huggins at West Virginia won his 800th later in the same week.

- Coach Williams will be only the third men's college basketball coach to reach the 800-win mark at his alma mater. The two other coaches to do so were Jim Boeheim and Bob Huggins.

I really hope the Heels get the win tonight so Coach Williams can be celebrated in front of a home crowd.

Don't forget that Rupp played in a very weak SEC. In 40 seasons at UK, he only lost 75 games, a stat that proves how bad the SEC was.

So do I.

I never knew he played at Kansas for Phogg Allen.

There's a pretty amazing coaching tree that is rooted in Kansas basketball. James Naismith coached Phog Allen, who in turn coached Dean Smith, Adolph Rupp, and Ralph Miller (among others).

Ironically, James Naismith is the only Kansas men's basketball coach to have a losing record (55-60).
