I wonder if he's having a total or partial knee replacement. My guess is total at his age. Sounds like just one at a time, too. Roy will be OK. I've had both mine done (partial), about a year apart. He'll be up and about before he knows it, but won't sleep well for about 4-6 weeks, and it's about 6-8 months before he'll forget he had it when he's back to full strength.
