Numbers in () are the Pomeroy ranking after the 8th game and Pomeroy's final ranking for the year. P didn't show game-by-game rankings before 2010, so the single number in the early years is the end-of-season ranking.

2021 - 5-3 (21/??)
2020 - 6-2 (22/84)
2019 - 6-2 (07/07)
2018 - 7-1 (11/08)
2017 - 7-1 (03/03)
2016 - 7-1 (09/02)
2015 - 6-2 (14/10)
2014 - 6-2 (07/29)
2013 - 6-2 (19/32)
2012 - 6-2 (05/06)
2011 - 5-3 (28/15)
2010 - 7-1 (04/61)
2009 - 8-0 (01)
2008 - 8-0 (03)

2005 - 7-1 (01)

2004 - 7-1 (11)

Interesting that this is worst than last year and tied for the worst start thru 8 games of Roy’s time at UNC.

Tempting to compare the 2011 team with this one. Similar record at this point and both ranked in the 20s.

2011 went 29-8 and got to the Elite Eight. I feel like this team could get there, too. Maybe further.

I hope you're right, because what I have witnessed thus far reminds me in no way of an EE team.

I don't ever expect the Heels to win a game. If they do, it will be a pleasant surprise. But, I'm long past expecting this team to win. I'm not expecting much more than last season.

And, comparing this team to the 2011 team is ridiculous.

Sounds like a good basis for a friendly wager.

My guess is that we lose a few more games than 2011, but are playing as well by the end of the season. With all the usual caveats about injuries and illnesses.

In 2011 we split with Duke during the regular season, then lost to them in the ACCT. 1-2. If we play them 3 times this season, I expect to go 2-1 or maybe even 3-0. I think Duke - like us - is better than they look at the moment and will end up be a very good team. But I think we have a chance to gell into a stronger team by March.

The rivalry could be really good this year.

Well, yes, I agree that we have a chance to be a better team. That's a pretty low bar and expectation. That's where I am with this team... very low expectations. But, yes, they could be better in a few months.

When I said "I think we have a chance to gell (sic) into a stronger team by March" I was talking in comparison with Duke.

Both teams should be better in March, but I think we have a higher ceiling.

Maybe. I don't see anything that makes me think, or believe, that, at the moment. I hope they get better. But, if last season was any kind of harbinger, it shows that things can actually get worse, if you don't have the right parts.

I believe and here is why:

Playing a ton of freshman with no summer time experience. Due to this, the gain is going to be bigger throughout the season for freshman than we typically see.

If Roy says they can shoot then I lean towards poor shot selection and early nerves to be the biggest reasons for the poor percentage. Shot selection is easier to correct the than shot form.

Our players known as shooters will get more time as they improve on defense. They want time and know it has to happen for more minutes.

Brooks will find his rythm. Playing together. See above.

This is in the maybe column. Ant returning could provide a nice spark with his all around effort. That has a way of being contagious.

I have rarely seen one of Roy's team not improve during the season by quite a bit other than last year.

My only concern is the lack of games to gain that experience. If we start cancelling, then it would hurt in my opinion.

GO HEELS!?
