The Badgers played FOUR ranked teams prior to the NCAA tourney......and lost to 2 of them.

The Heels played TWELVE ranked teams....split 6 and 6. I ain't skeered!!!!

WISCONSIN...
points per game: ranked 67th.
Rebounds per game: ranked 267th.
Assists per game: ranked 165th.
Field goal %: ranked 21st.

UNC...
points per game: ranked 17th.
Rebounds per game: ranked 2nd.
Assists per game: ranked 2nd.
Field goal %: ranked 27th.

I understand that it's "all about match ups" but I've also seen the whole body of work and know just how good this UNC team can be. Hopefully Roy is reminding our guys with stats like this!

According to Sagarin ratings, we've played the 2nd toughest schedule; Wisky's is no. 20.
Additionally, we've played 21 games versus top 50 teams, which is more than anybody. The Badgers have played 13.

Other than the Pitt loss, which in hindsight looks like the perfect (er... imperfect for us) storm for us - first game after losing Coach Smith, etc - we don't have a bad loss on our schedule. At least half of those could've been wins if we kept our composure and closed the deal. Our guys look like they've learned from those mistakes and are playing their best at the right time of the year.

GO HEELS!

Except for FG% these are all volume stats. Might was well include home game attendance in there for good measure. :)

Since Wisconsin is the most efficient offensive team in the country this is going to a huge test defensively for the Heels. We've seen them do it in spurts but they are going to need a lot more minutes of great defence and some cold shooting from Wisky to pull off the upset.

Good stats, Bleed
CC - sure they are all volume stats, which you could say another way - they are all tempo stats. I said in another post - I know its hard to speed a team up, but I hope we press some and trap some to try to speed them up. I don't see any downside. Badgers just won't run a primary or secondary break, no matter what, it seems. Its not like they will try to burn us on a fast break if they beat our press / trap. Somebody will come back to me with how many points Wisc scores on average. I agree they are very effective / productive in their limited possessions - I just hope we can get OUR possessions up.

We just need to stay on their three point shooters as well, and be able to play Kaminsky straight up with one guy.

I liked Barkley's and the Jet's comments this weekend about which teams can win in variable modes (pace of play) - they said some teams can win in a speed up mode or in a half court mode. He was referring to UVA and MSU as both teams that struggle to win in a faster pace, higher scoring game. I think he mentioned UNC as an upper level team - we can (and want to) speed it up and increase possessions and score on the break, but are also comfortable in the half court set, pumping it into our bigs. This would be even better for us if we had multiple great outside shooters, and anyone who drove to the hole more frequently.

Still, I like our chances if we play smart, take care of the ball, and dictate the pace. Here's hoping we get the Wisconsin that lost to Rutgers (yes Rutgers) earlier this year.
