Sciencey Stuff

I enjoy reading about different types of science developments, so I thought we could have a thread for it. I've always found it amazing what we can accomplish as a human race. Anyway first up to bat, scientist make the first 3-D printed heart using human cells.

This stuff is incredible. I didn't even believe 3-D printing was real when I first read about it. A while back I poasted something about printing 3-D houses in underdeveloped areas, but its biological applications are mind-blowing.

This is promising for the healthcare community and could be a game changer. It's likely still a decade away from being cleared for human use but if it reaches that level, it could change the face of medicine altogether.

I've thought the "Cultured Meat" or clean meat is cool. An area my company is getting involved with now.

They take a cell from a living animal, and "grow" the meat in a bioreactor. Could be a good market for it for people who are vegan/vegetarian for the ethical reasons, and to not have to have as many cows for the environmentally focused people.

That's pretty cool. I would try one.

More moon stuff

Sounds like the funding might be a bigger challenge than the technology.

One thing this article doesn't mention is that NASA is looking at this moon project as a proving ground/launching point for putting humans on Mars by the mid-2030s (which sounds a long way off but is only a decade and a half). Color me extremely skeptical, but that would be incredible.

Yes, I'm very skeptical as too. Hell, we were all supposed to have jet packs by now, and flying cars but I'm still waiting.

We got the internet instead. We've spent R&D on communications rather than fun personal transportation devices.

Back to the Future got that part wrong. They still had us sending faxes, using landline phones and using poor projection screen TV.

Saw one of the most incredible things in my life last night. We’re sitting at this bar called hi tides that has a balcony on the 4th floor overlooking the ocean. Off beyond the horizon we could seen the cloud tops of a distant storm system hundreds of miles away. It was an incredible lightning display as it was. But then As the sun set we could see green and blue lightning exiting the tops of the clouds and seeming to hit some barrier (space?). We were dumfounded. I had no idea something like this existed. I googled it and found videos on “jet lightning” which is evidently what we saw.
