other than Advanced Open water cert and nitrox, is there really any reason to take PADI classes?
Sharks, that's all I have to say about that.other than Advanced Open water cert and nitrox, is there really any reason to take PADI classes?
Not unless you plan on doing some technical stuff. The OW and Nitrox should be more than sufficient for recreational diving.
I'm just looking to be able to get down below 60 feet and stay down for as long as possible.
Enlighten me though- what would consist of "technical stuff"? Besides laying mines in Iranian ports and welding and that kind of shit.
Diving deep wrecks, staying down for extended periods, caving, etc.
I've done some technical deep dives on Tri-mix for recreation but didn't really care for the suspended decompression stops. Thirty minutes on the wreck at 320 ft. and 4-5 hours to ascend sucks.
Never got below 85 ft. on a mission and even that was rare. We usually did our thing from 30 ft up using rebreathers.
ETA...for what you want to do use Nitrox and a steel 120 tank. You can stay down at least an hour unless you're plowing up the bottom, lol. Plus you won't be exhausted when you're out of the water. Nitrox doesn't wear you out like oxygen.
I would only scuba dive to pick up chicks, like James Bond.
I just want to be able to dive a few of the shipwrecks off Morehead, although most of what I would be doing would be reef diving in the Caribbean.
