A disturbing trend that's been ever-present during the Fedora era reared its head once again last night:

We can't score points when we're ahead and thus can't build/extend leads.

I call it the Seabiscuit mentality (the famed horse who had to be trailing before it got angry and surged past. The horse couldn't run from the front). Our offense is the same way. I don't know what on earth can explain why this is the case, but our offense goes limp (from the perspective of putting points on the board), when we are ahead by 1-7 points. What makes it even more infuriating is these squandered offensive possessions usually follow the defense actually forcing punts a few times in a row.

Like I said, I don't know what would explain this, but it's happened too many times in too many games to be a fluke. We ultimately lose games because there's always a lull where we fail to extend a lead and eventually the other team's offense figures out how to put points on the board.
