Shaq says he was paid to play for LSU

So now the way the NCAA and schools work LSU should self-impose this season for something that happened 30 years ago right?

I thought he said... he got paid but then said statute of limitations is up so too bad. Go lsu. Lol

You're right that was part of the discussion!

Of course, it's not all that surprising that he may have made a few extra bucks during his day on the Bayou when playing for the Tigers, and it was quite a few years ago as he mentioned...It would be interesting to see if the NCAA would go back, and look at the situation if actual boosters came forward to collaborate Shaq's story?....Of course, there's a slim to NO chance of that ever happening IMO, so guess it was OK for him to joke about it....

Truthfully, I've had an affinity for all things LSU basketball ever since Kenny Smith was undercut by an LSU player back in the early 80's, which all but ended a possible title run for the Tar Heels that season!.....Have despised LSU basketball ever since that incident....

affinity means sympathy , bond , understanding. I think you mean grudge , Hatred etc.

Honestly that's really old news, despite the fact that Shaq only came forward recently.
Dean recruited him briefly, until two things quickly became apparent:
1. that he could never qualify at UNC, and
2. there were schools more than ready and willing to pay him and make him qualify.

True story: When Shaq visited Chapel Hill he encountered Michael Jordan, who told him that if he came to UNC he would get to play summer pickup games against the GOAT... and if so, "I'm gonna dunk on you".

This happens more than people think. All the naysayers keep saying this can't be happening. College sports is dirty. Just had NSD for football with the same big time schools like Alabama getting all those big recruits. I guarantee boosters are paying many of those kids. NCAA looks the other way. More concerned with kids sleeping on couches. Its all about $.

To not realizes this happens every where is like saying UNC is the only place that athletes are afforded easy classes in order to remain eligible. There is WAY TO MUCH BIG $$$ in the 2 revenue sports for SOME of that money to not find it way to players. Some are far worse than others and the methods are very slick but you would be hard pressed to not find it at any big time NCAA program...

This shouldn't surprise anyone.

Through a mutual friend - in the mid 90's - I had lunch with Marty Hensley, who was a backup center for the Heels in late 80's (around the time that Dean was briefly recruiting Shaq). He said it was well known amongst players that Shaq was getting his wallet stuffed by boosters wanting him to come to LSU.
