I had a article pop up saying Shea was given a scholarship. Is this old news because I don't see anyone talking about it. I haven't been following the scholarship count. What does that do to offers for the next two years for available scholarships? I thought scholarships where year to year but I don't see Roy taking it away the next two years.

Not sure of our scholarship situation so hopefully somebody else can enlighten me how this impacts everything. Congrats to the young man on the scholly, however, something tells me we should have sat on this one and used it on a recruit that will actually contribute. Shea and family had no problem coming to UNC on their dime.

Congratulate the kid and then say we should have "sat" on the ship and used it on a kid who might actually contribute.
I'll say it again Shea is not chopped liver. He contributes every single day to Tar Heel basketball.

Every player on the bench contributes and Shea is growing into a good back up. I love how Roy gives his preferred walk-ons the open schollies and I also love how honest he is about their future availability!

ALL scholarships are year to year no matter what level recruit the kid is. We had an open ship available and Roy was not going to bring in another kid for 2017 so Shey gets his ride for this tear, it has nothing at all to do with the 2018 class of recruits. A walk on is explained, because you have one now it does not mean you will have one next year. That is actually true for all but most typical recruits it is a given for UNC anyway, that the scholly will be renewed but that is not the case for most walk on kids.

Now Roy does not like to "take away" a scholly once he has given a kid one but there are times when he has to not renew a kids that came in as a walk on and has played up to the level of assumed on scholly. Luke for example, pretty much has insured himself of a scholly for the rest of his term with us, he could volunteer his scholly to help us bring in a recruit but I doubt (pretty much know) Roy would ever force him to.

One thing for sure, Shea never had a shot he didn't like. I don't think he had any assists in his brief time on the floor last year....o_O
