Remember back a few weeks ago there was some concern about the team's 3pt shooting?
It's now up to a respectable 35.9% (51 of 142)
BUT that is including the late game prayers being jacked up by the end of the bench (Spenser Dalton with 3 attempts this season)
Also, Kenny Williams is yet to hit from 6 attempts.
If you take into account players who've made 3's then it's 51 of 129 = 39.5%
If you do the same as above and include Williams you get 51 of 135 = 37.7%
Last years team averaged 35.7% for the year (184 of 512) but without Marcus (94 of 238) it went down to 32%
This years team averages 35.9% with Marcus and 34.0% without him
Just in the same way as it was too early to give up on the teams shooting in November, two games is not a big enough sample size to adjust for Marcus.
However, by the look of it, the percentages are trending upward.
Onto free throws, and as a team the Heels are now 118 of 168 (70.2%) which is also trending up sharply (75.3% since the loss at NI including one poor outing vs Maryland)
Again, it's too early for the Marcus factor and he actually lowers the percentage slightly (3 of 5)
So the numbers seem to support the eye test - this team is shooting better now, especially considering the early 'wobbles'.
It'll be good to revisit the stats just prior to ACC play, again halfway through the conference season and again before the conference tourney.
