Should I be pissed about this?

My wife's volvo (XC90) blew a head gasket this past friday. The volvo shop said the water pump messed up and the head gasket is blown due to the car over heating. Well back in June of 2014 the Volvo dealership in Greensboro was going to put a new timing belt on the car and I told them to go ahead and put a water pump in while they were putting in the new timing belt. On 3 different occasions the service adviser assured me there was no need for a new water pump as it is well documented that the XC90 is good to at least 250,000 miles before a new one is needed, The car had about 160,000 at the time. So fast forward 6 to 7 months and about 12,000 miles later and the dang water pump went out and now I have a 5000 lb paper weight !
Both the shop and the dealer ship say the engine needs to be replace. I told the G.M. at the dealership I feel like they are responsible , because had they did as I requested I would not be in need of a new motor. The service advisor who helped me is no longer there. The service manager said they were going to see what they can do to help me. What do you think? Also I had a 3 party warranty with the car and they said they will pay 100 percent of the labor and parts to replace the water pump but not pay to actually fix the motor.

Yes, I would be pissed as hell. But what are you going to do?

Just another reminder to always get this stuff in writing. And to stay away from European cars unless random 4 digit repairs are no big deal (I say this as a FORMER owner of 2 European cars).

I feel your pain, but you should be the most pissed at the person who kept driving or let the car keep running after the engine was running hot.

In any service related issue, you have the final say on what work is performed by the dealership. Any time you change a timing belt and the water pump is located under the engine cover, you replace the water pump along with the belt. Reduces the chances of the waterpump failing like you experienced. Get a new motor!!!!!

I would just ask the management for help. If you demand it, you ain't getting it. But if you ask and promise you won't forget their gesture, you have an outside shot.

The car had the oil changed about a week prior and there was no issue at the time and when the light came on the car cut off. No warning. Mechanic told me that by the time the dash shows that you have a problem that the bottom of the motor is probably already damaged.
