Best quote, on SC: "New USC athletic director Lynn Swann bid against himself to extend Helton through 2023, so the Trojans will have to dig deep if they want to fire Helton. They’ll have to pay millions more than UCLA did when it fired Jim Mora (about $12 million), but the decision is similar. How far behind are you willing to fall? How much are you willing to lose in ticket sales as the fan base grows more apathetic?"

Bubba bid against himself and UNC football to extend Larry. How far are Bubba and the deep pockets boosters and the administration willing to fall behind. How much are they willing to lose, how much more good money are they going to throw after bad money, as the fan base grows more apathetic?

On UNC - If we can Larry, says Satterfield best choice.

The reality is that no matter who we hire, it will take 2-3 years to truly build talent and quality depth to get us out of mediocrity. Fedora has us in shambles. Lucky for us, we play in possibly the worst P5 division so we could
Hope for a bowl in year 1 under the right coach/scheme.

We have talent. I'm not sure why you continue to say we don't.

We had the talent to win the Coastal this year. We have had the talent to win at least 1 more game every Fedora has at UNC. Fedora always underachieves per the talent he has. As recruiting is now taking a dive, just think what that will mean in 2020 and 2021.

The right coach could come in and win the Coastal next year. I think any new coach should be expected to be no worse than 7-5 in regular season in 2019, even with the inevitable issues that come with a new coaching staff.

I think 7-5 is a little too much to expect in year one. If that's what you're looking for, then you're going to want the new guy fired before he's been here a year.

I’m not sure how many more times I have to answer you directly on this but Read carefully. I’m not saying we don’t have talent in spots, but we lack talent and depth on both sides of the ball. We also lack talent and depth at quite a few critical positions on both sides of the ball which highlights our weaknesses. That is a direct result of us starting to drop considerably in recruiting. If you’ve watched some games this year, you’d see the distinct difference in talent level in many of the games we’ve played. Teams with a lot of talent don’t continue to lose to ECU like we do. Teams with talent don’t continue to get dominated by Duke. Teams with talent don’t struggle in spots against Western Carolina and not cover the spread against a bottom feeder 1AA team.

Problem #1 is that Fedora is a shitty coach. You fix that problem and problem #2 (talent and depth) will take care of itself.

And again, good news is we play in possibly the worst division in power 5 football. That gives a new coach hope to compete even as they are building.

I think there's enough talent to win 6 games next year, with a good coach. The problem is that we're losing most of our experienced talent after next season and the cupboard is going to be relatively bare for the '20 season due to piss poor recruiting. So while a good coach could come in and have a pretty good first year, help in the form of recruits isn't on the way. It's going to take at least 4-5 years to bring in enough talent to fix the mess we're in and have us in a position to possibly play in the ACCCG.

Still love Satterfield.

I think the ol is set for a few yrs, rb and wr too. Just need QB and young te (kamari). D is hopeless.

All the talent was on the sideline injured

Next yr the DL is goingto be small and lacking depth, lb lacking experienced talent
As Roseanne Rosannadanna says: "Well, Jane, it just goes to show you, it's always something. If it's not one thing it's another."

Blazers posts go to the exact premise of my post. We always seem to have pockets of talent in spots, but never have quality depth year over year across the board. We are good in this position group one year, but then next year we are awful, rinse and repeat.

Fedora should have left after 2015. He got cocky and thought Trubisky could take him to the ACC championship game again and it back fired on him. He wanted to leave after 2016. He’s checked out on UNC. He’s arrogant and doesn’t like being an after thought to basketball. He wants to be at a football school plain and simple. He dislikes you as much as you do him.

Your first sentence is correct, as are your second and third. The first half of your fourth sentence is definitely correct, and the second part if probably correct. I think your fifth is correct in that that is one of his excuses to himself and his inner circle. Your concluding sentence has been true since at least Spring of 2018.

I don’t disagree here. I think Fed viewed UNC as a stepping stone for him to land - premier job in the Big 12 and it never materialized because he was exposed for what he is. At this point, he’s almost defiant in how he carries himself towards media, or anybody who generally questions him. No ownership or accountability. That’s what a $12MM buyout will do for you. He might as well walk around with middle fingers in the sky.

If I had to describe Fed in two words, the first would be arrogant and the second would be overpaid. We bent over and grabbed our ankles and he's laughing all the way to the bank. And to think I thought he might be the guy to establish our program as a perennial top 20 team.

Yet the publisher of this website, who has been openly critical of Fedora, has called him a gentleman and someone whom he truly likes. AJ has stated he’s been gracious and considerate to him.

His arrogance lies in his unbending adherence to a system, even when it clearly isn’t working. That doesn’t mean that he’s not a nice guy. Hell, it isn’t his fault we offered him the sun and the moon to stay. I’d have accepted it too. The fault was on our part.

What system of his isn’t working?

I'm not sure we can count on that continuing to be the case. Some of the schools in the Coastal are committed to quality football programs, and are improving - Pitt and Virginia for sure, and Miami won't stay down long, IMO. Duke, while they will never be world beaters, always manages to make some noise on the national stage (Northwestern, eg.). Who knows what may happen at GaTech. And I can't believe VaTech will tolerate many seasons like this one. We'll see.

And if Notre Dame ever decides to join the ACC full-time in football, they’ll put them in the coastal division because it’s the weakest division and they like the matchup against Pitt. So things are going to get any easier in that division.

I agree. UVA under Mendenhall may never be as good as the best George Welch teams, but they should be competitive every year. VT has played a ton of freshman and sophomores this year. Narduzzi has built a Pitt program on old fashioned fundamentals on both sides of the ball - if he were to get 1 really good recruiting class to provide a couple of true game changers and better depth, he could have a 10 win team. Miami already has the talent on D to win the division and even challenge Clemson, if it gets more consistent offense. Cutcliffe is clipping along and showing no signs of taking Dook back to a bottom dweller. PJ may never again win the Coastal, but in most years he will reach a bowl.

Fedora has become the obvious weak link among coaches in the Coastal.

ND will never join the ACC as a full time member. The ONLY thing that could drive that would be if the powers that be made a mandatory rule that to be eligible for the playoff has to come from a contending team in a Power 5 football conference. But they would never go there precisely because ND is such a draw in a year like this one. And why would ND ever join? They have the best of both worlds. They get their gaudy NBC TV contract, and then get the benefit, and pub, of ACC basketball. ND holds all the cards.

I tell you how it happens and it should
Happen.....all the Power 5’s refuse to let non football members in their league. You can’t be an independent in all sports and survive. ND could try it and then watch as their Olympic sports die a slow death.

the way the acc is kissing n.dame's butt is shameful and i opposed it from the start.

Jimmy I remember you and I raising hell about it years ago when we did it. Other conferences pretty much told ND to go F themselves and we took the bait and let them in. Huge mistake.

I don't really see how we're losing out from ND being a non-football member. They added a bunch of dollars to the ACC TV contract, not to mention all the extra tickets sold when they play at ACC stadiums. They're basketball is fairly good too, better than quite a few ACC schools. We seem to be gaining from their presence if you ask me.

I'm glad Fedora is gone though.

net gain financially, at least in the short term, and that's why they were added. but i believe the long term strength of the conference come from pride and identity including geographic as the name implies. but what's done is done, n.dame was added.... or were they?

I was one of the ones unsure about the Fed hire. I have been certain for some time that he needed to go elsewhere. I am fairly certain a decision was reached in the football offices late yesterday as those types of conversations have been ongoing for a few weeks.
UNC will not win with a DII coach or DII talent.

Shouldn't you be somewhere bribing basketball players not to decommit from your shit program?

Not just short term. The ACC Network is going to be about non-revenues much more than is the SECN. And ND has major support for non-revenues.
