I listened to the soundtrack to judgement night for years. Something about that crossover with rap and heavy metal that did it for me back in the day. I would bet the farm GSD had that soundtrack as well

Singles (movie forgettable at best, but a great '90s soundtrack)

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels - Found this one in a used CD bin for a dollar. Knew I loved the instrumental track that builds to the climax of the movie (name is Zorba the Greek), but the rest is awesome too, couple of James Brown tracks, cool Police & Thieves cover, Hundred Mile High City, plus there's a few funny quotes from the movie mixed in there.

O Brother Where Art Thou?

Lord of the Rings. Have the entire score from Return of the King on my iTunes. That + Emancipator kept me sane during all those nights studying in Davis Library 4th floor.

Nailed it. That soundtrack is the shit. I bought the cassette just after seeing the movie (decent movie). The best song on there was the one with Teenage Fanclub and De La Soul - Fallen. But there were some other good ones too. There was also a cool song by Cypress Hill and Sonic Youth. And I think I remember Onyx having a good jam on there.

Here are some other great soundtracks:

- The Breakfast Club
- Pretty In Pink
- The Wedding Singer
- Dazed and Confused
- Goodfellas
- Stand By Me
- The Graduate
- American Graffiti
- Easy Rider
- Secret Life of Walter Mitty
- Pulp Fiction
- The Royal Tennenbaums
- Jackie Brown

I know it's pretty silly now, but growing up I really liked the soundtrack to Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music.

I know it's pretty silly now, but growing up I really liked the soundtrack to Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music.

My dad took my sister and I to see Mary Poppins in the theater back in '64, saw this fantastic flick on labor day weekend in Atlantic City, NJ . . the A/C boardwalk was so cool back in the mid 60s and the best theater in the area was there. Saturday afternoon matinee and the place was packed full.

There's been some great ones mentioned so far (O Brother, Breakfast Club, Dazed & Confused, Goodfellas, The Graduate, Pulp Fiction, Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, & Spinal Tap are all personal favorites), so I'll add a couple more of my favorites as well.

Guardians of the Galaxy
Remember the Titans
Forrest Gump
The Blues Brothers
Top Gun
Caddyshack

There are other great movies that have great scores or theme songs, but I don't necessarily consider those "soundtracks" per se. I also have a hard time calling a musical a "soundtrack" but there are plenty of great musicals out there that I love. The only reason I included Blues Brothers is because it's a mix of artists performing original and existing songs, even though I consider it a "musical" as well.

Singles-I liked the movie. The soundtrack was definitely great for sure though.

Last Action Hero-I heard the movie was so bad I never even watched it. The soundtrack rocked though.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly-You know you love this one.

LOTR-I agree with everyone who mentioned these. They are great.

Gladiator-Very good stuff.

The Pirates of the Caribbean-Not great maybe but pretty solid.

Requiem for a Dream-It has the famous music that the Corner Stone Cues (I think. It is on my ipod but I'm lazy) made into a pretty epic set of tunes. The Requiem soundtrack itself is great but the Corner Stone stuff is outstanding. I have no idea what the Last Airbender stuff is about.

28 Days Later-Just a badass buildup and payoff IMO.

There are some great horror instrumentals as well (Poltergeist, Halloween, Phantasm, etc...) that I guess would be on a soundtrack for the movies. I have the main themes but not entire soundtracks.

Also, since some I mentioned were mainly just themes, the GOT theme is outstanding. Some of the other music on the soundtracks are good as well.

I go back more so than most on this board but my all time r favorite soundtrack is from 1983.....................little known movie with Burt Lancaster called Local Hero

The soundtrack from the great Mark Knopfler

It is simply fantastic

This is the closing theme Going Home

Many folks have this played at their funerals and for you BPL fans I am told that the last 2 1/2 minutes are the walkout music for Newcastle United football club

Not a movie, but the soundtrack from The Sopranos was pretty solid. I actually own both volumes.

Some great choices, no doubt.
I'll second the following:
American Graffiti (great movie also)
Guardians Of The Galaxy (ditto)
Easy Rider (if you've never seen it, watch it)
Remember The Titans (one of my favorite sports movies)
The Breakfast Club (where art they now?)
Fast Times At Ridgemont High (awesome dude)
The Graduate (love the ending)
Dazed and Confused (never seen it, have the CD)
Billy Jack !! :)

I saw Straight Outta Compton last night, it had a pretty solid soundtrack as well. Of course, it was basically a NWA/Ice Cube/Dr. Dre greatest hits soundtrack, but if you like that, it's a good soundtrack.
