We were a house divided, dad liked dook, mom UNC. So believe it or not, my favorite team was UNC but I also pulled for dook. I hated State. My dad and I sadly watched Goose Givens torch dook for 41 points in the '78 championship game. But when the LOM arrived, I disliked him immediately and told my dad I wouldn't root for dook(that was when Duke became dook to me) as long as that man was their coach. I haven't and my disdain for the LOM has only increased over the years.

We're all Tar Heels. My brother went to NCSU and we all still pull for the Heels. I'd go to Raleigh to hang out with him, always in some sort of Carolina gear. I only have a cousin that pulls for dook, but as they say, every family has a black sheep. Personally, I'd pull for North Korea over dook. I can tolerate state, but when they start winning their fans are most annoying, kinda like that turd you have to double and triple flush.

There weren't that many people in Brevard in the '50's and 60's anyway, mike!
I remember heading to Cashiers to fish at my grandfathers place on the Chattooga through the '60's, Brevard always seemed kinda quiet.
As you said mike, for most of WNC it was either Carolina or State, dook began to make strides through the '60's into the '70's and the bandwagon was rolling for dook, team got better and the miscreants emerged. A very large number of UNC or State fans around these parts actually attended one of the universities.
90% of dook fans have never set foot in Derm or on a college campus.

Growing up in Brevard in the 50's & 60's there were no Duke fans I can remember. It was Tar Heels or moou.
My mom was the sole dook fan in the NC wing of the family, and even she eventually converted because 1. she had always respected Dean's courageous stances, and 2. she couldn't stand K ("they play dirty basketball and he's a jackass").

I always sorta liked Wake as my second favorite, and unlike some here I was never a bonafide State-hater. I had 2 NC cousins go to State (because they were in the Textile management program), but hell, even they pulled for Carolina.

As for me, even as a kid, even before K, I NEVER, EVER liked dook.

Who dook thought they were playing vs. who they got.
