Does anyone own one? What are your thoughts on them? The one I priced was in the 6500 range

$6500??? Holy crap. I can sleep anywhere so it really isn't relevant to me but that just seems ridiculous.

Gray,

My only experience with the Sleep Number Bed is that UPS used to deliver those bed systems, I can tell you that I picked up and returned almost as many as were delivered.

However, maybe, there have been some improvements from what they were some 20 years back . .

I'm a side sleeper and prefer a more firmer bed, my wife is a back sleeper and loves the softer mattress . . it took a couple of tries until we finally found something that we both could tolerate. Trying to find a bed that both you and your spouse can benefit from can be a frustrating process.

We got the tempurpedic king a couple of years ago and love it. Don't remember what they call it but our model has some sort of padding on top that keeps it from getting too hot. It's really comfortable. Tough to stay in a hotel bed now.

$6500 does seem excessive. Here are the issues I am having. Chronic back pain for me. Regular mattresses always have a dip after a few months resulting in more back pain. I want my bed to be as firm as possible. My wife is the total opposite. Soft as possible. With the one we looked at, you get conture setting and firmness desire at the push of a button.
Does the tempurpedic king have adjustments for this? I know my recliner can adjust to different positions, which helps me find the proper setting for how my back feels at the time. Having a bed to do so would help I would hope

I don't think Tempurpedic offers a bed w variable firmness settings. I think you simply decide on firmness at purchase. We do have the head and foot elevation remote but since we bought the single mattress instead of the split, we never use it. I think we paid $5500 for the king three years ago at Mattress Firm. They were running a 0% for 60 mos special which worked for us.

I had back surgery in 2001 and know where you're coming from. Tempurpedic does conform to your body over time so ours is getting softer but still ok. Given what you've said, I'd get the sleep number bed so you can adjust firmness.

$6500? That's absurd. We have a mattress that we paid roughly $1200 for. It works just fine.

Oh, and I'm a back sleeper. That's how royalty does it.

I have had a Sleep number bed since 2002 I believe. It is a california king and has served us well. The bed has changed some but I don't feel a need to replace it. The pump and controls have all but quit but we just keep it on firm now. 13 yrs I feel I got my money out of it. I bought my oldest girl a cheap memory foam bed from sleepys for about 200 bucks a little over a year ago and she still loves it.

I love a good night's sleep as much as anyone, but $6500 for a mattress seems insane.

We've been talking about replacing ours but I can't fathom spending more than $1k. Although all the ads point out you spend more time on your bed throughout your life than anywhere else. Since it's hard to know whether a mattress will be comfortable and supportive long term, I'm afraid of spending the dough and having it be worse on my back than the old one.

Well I ordered it. I chose it over the others because of the ability to adjust the firmness. Yes it seems a bit excessive in cost, but if I get 10-15 years out of it I will be satisfied. Having chronic back pain with little to no relief, this seems like a good route. I am very comfortable resting in the recliner so this bed should follow suit. I will giveban update abweek or so after it is delivered

Well, I rolled the dice. Not into pain medicine so I look for other reliefs. I read a lot of reviews and many seem to talk about pain relief. Honestly, I think I could sleep on plywood and be fine. Bad backs suck

Has that been delivered yet . .? Whats the latest . . . ?

So far it has been well worth the money. My back trouble has significantly been reduced. It's amazing how minor adjustments change your comfort. Only down fall I see is the space between the 2 sides of the bed. It operates 2 twin mattresses to make up a king with independent controls. Spooning is a bit harder, but we have adjusted well
