Smart.Fast.Physical

I am trying to figure out what 1/3 UNC is. I guess fast, because they aren't smart nor physical.
not fast or every back/qb 4.7 or better wouldn't turn the corner on us every play , unless you just mean "running a lot of plays" fast.

That's what is so frustrating. At times our offense is brilliant and our defense is pretty solid. At other times, it looks like the Keystone Kops out there, total chaos.

Second game in a row where our defense played well in the second half but no showed in the first half and dug a hole too big to dig out of. Also second game in a row where we wet the bed on offense.

I think the offense and defense played well against the Citadel.

Last game was pretty solid. Today was a let down.

I forgot about the Citadel. No offense to them, but that's a game we should have won handily. But the dook and State games were unacceptable in terms of effort, preparation, execution, etc... I'm sorry, but "smart/fast/physical" are terms which simply don't apply to this program right now, especially "physical".

Unfortunately, we appeared mired in mediocrity once again. I'm beginning to wonder if that will ever change. Perhaps that's truly who we are as a program. I had friends from Mississippi who tried to warn me not to get my hopes up too high when we hired Fed, saying he was a pretty good coach but not one that was going to build a top 20 program. But I wouldn't listen, I guess mainly because I had been dreaming of a Top 20 program for 55 years, I just didn't want to believe them. They say hope springs eternal. Heck, even the Cubs' fans were rewarded eventually.

We have averaged 8 wins against 5 losses in his five years here, albeit under very trying circumstances with the NCAA looming over recruiting the entire time. So perhaps I"m not giving him enough credit. I just don't know at this point. I'm afraid that next year will be even worse with the mass exodus we're going to have, especially on offense. But I will continue to hope for the best while trying not to get too caught up in the hype that goes around every time we hire a new coach. With Fed's contract, I imagine he's going to be around for at least 2-3 more years. We'll see what happens.

I think he was being sarcastic on The Citadel game.

I'll say it again- I'm not 100 percent certain what a Top 20 program means to you, but we've been ranked in the Top 20 each of the last two years. If you mean ranked in the Top 20 all year every year- there are very few programs that do that. If you think we're ever going to have an Alabama type run in football- you need to temper your expectations.

Alabama's a top 3 program, so no I don't expect that. But I see no reason we can't start and end most seasons in the Top 20, not just make a token appearance, immediately wet the bed, and drop out. We play in a good football conference that is only getting better, have very good facilities, and a fan base that is desperate for a winner.

some believe that carolina is a top 25 job when you consider everything...other than commitment from admin and fans, what does carolina need to make the job transfer into a program ranking?

I don't know if the Heels are a "Top 20" program, but there's no way that the team should play to their competition like they have this season. Shouldn't have been rattled by Georgia, shouldn't have been throttled by VT, and dang well shouldn't have lost @ Duke while chasing the Coastal crown, DEFINITELY shouldn't have lost on SENIOR DAY while the Coastal was still potentially within reach!

I certainly understand this desire, and your frustrations. I want this badly. I'm just no longer going to expect it. So few schools do this- and unfortunately we don't have the football marquee of the ones that do. Even Clemson had the 81 title and incredible gameday environment to boast when Dabo arrived and changed the culture. The battle for us is so uphill for a number of reasons- I'm shocked we've trended as upwards as we have the last two years.

Amen. Thought we really played down to our level of talent even in the losses. Played well beating FSU though.

Just one caveat, we should never have been throttled by VT but perhaps in such weather conditions, that's a game we should have lost. Just not by so much.

Should have been a one-loss regular season had we played and executed up to our potential. Perhaps 2 losses if you want to throw in a rivalry game which sometimes ensnares better teams than us whether ACC, SEC, Big Ten or whatever.

Still can't believe, for example, Penn State managed to beat Ohio State. Maybe not as much as rivalry game but just goes to show such losses can happen even to the best team.

But we had no business losing to a lame GA team, and no business losing to BOTH Duke and State and Duke in particular.
