Why is it still taking them so long to get to UNC?

SMU got 2016 Postseason Ban, Lost 9 scholly's over the next 3 years, and LB suspended 9 games.

LB coach at KU/probation, LB coach at UCLA/probation, LB coach at SMU/problems again...hmm....

Larry is an amazing basketball mind, but yeah he's one of those coaches who's pathological... just can't seem to help himself. Cut from the old NYC cloth.

Because SMU was a case with actual malfeasance in basketball and dishonesty to the investigators, unlike UNC.

They helped recruits obtain eligibility while still in High School! That's right down the middle of NCAA regulations and no way LB didn't know it.

pat forde grilled brown, smu, and the ncaa this morning on a dallas radio station...talked about academic fraud, extra benefits, etc...host asks, "so why did it take so long?...this story broke in january on 2014!"

i laughed to myself and thought, really?

forde replied with "you never know what kind of timeline the ncaa uses...especially when witnesses aren't cooperating, etc"

i laughed again...oh the irony

Did Suitcase Larry really play for Dean Smith? Great basketball mind, but he must have missed everything else. SMH
He played for Dean but was a Frank McGuire recruit, part of the "underground railroad" that got us on probation because of Frank's shenanigans. Larry came from that dog-eat-dog NYC culture. Dean always liked Larry --- sorta like a black-sheep prodigal son --- but unfortunately Dean's integrity didn't rub off on him.

Yeah, and everybody thinks he was a longtime DES assistant coach; but actually only worked at UNC for a couple seasons. And his shenanigans as a coach started with his first job as he was hired by Davidson College to be the head coach, but left for the Carolina Cougars before he coached a single game.

Off topic, but didn't we delay the process again by bringing up something irrelevant about Men's Soccer?

I can't keep up with this stuff anymore.

I'm sure. And it takes them longer to absolve than to hammer. What is maddening is that they will almost never announce a program has been cleared... they just end the investigation. In fact the only time the NCAA has ever categorically exonerated a program was the Cam Newton garbage at Auburn. There were two reasons for that: 1. The whole thing was nothing but a smear job by SEC rivals, and 2. Chizik started calling out the NCAA publicly for delaying.
Roy has (a lot more subtly) called them out by stating nothing will happen. That is a good thing. My guess is they dick around long enough to save face, give some sanctions to WBB and maybe soccer, shake their fingers at the AD and that will be that. They are punishing MBB (quite unfairly) by letting this thing linger, so like a dog chasing a UPS truck, they can wag their tails and tell themselves they did their jobs.
Still SMH at the whole circus.

Said it before and I'll say it again...Brown is a scumbag, plain and simple. There were reasons he was never offered the UNC job folks, the biggest being Dean wouldn't allow it. People cry and moan about Rasheed or Mahktar when neither can hold a candle to Larry Brown.

It's funny, I always heard good things about Larry from my aunts and uncles who loved him from his playing days and of course they pulled for him with the Cougars. Of course by the time my own recollections began he was well into a coaching career. I always pulled for him because he was a Carolina guy, but over time his act wore thin. The "Suitcase Larry" moniker portended a mercenary quality that turned me off. He was more than willing to call on his UNC connections when it served his purposes but I never saw any giving back.
I don't think he treated Phil Ford right in New Jersey, and fair or not, I still partially blame him for Dean retiring five yrs too early.
Truth is Larry may be the best X and O mind alive since Dean's passing and he is a terrific teacher of the game, but he is one of those coaches I call "pathological"... the personality type who is gonna cheat, even when he doesn't have to. Guys like Harrick and Cal of course fit that same mold. Sux that Dean's integrity never rubbed off.

A harbinger of things to come. Great baller and teacher of the game, pretty sorry individual.

Is Rick Pitino next? The story about hookers for Louisville recruits may smell fishy but it's easy to imagine the NCAA jumping on yet another HOF coach.
