We're forecasted for 6-10 inches of snow here in NoVA beginning around 5 PM, and with the cold temps it's not going anywhere for a good long week.

Looks like some, if not most, of the Triad area is going to get a taste of both . .

It seems the Washington Metro area always gets a winter storm for President's Day . . just amazing how often it seems to happen.

Well ONCE AGAIN wilmington is located dead on the demarcation for snow/rain. I've been here 25 yrs and at least two or three times every winter we will get a cold miserable rain while literally 30 miles away snow will be falling. Seems the relatively warmer water keeps a narrow strip along the coast about 5 degrees warmer and usually thst makes all the diff in precip being frozen or not.

Same here. I live a few miles south of you. Being on a south facing beach makes it difficult to get snow. Usually we only get snow if the storm comes off the ocean for us. I think I hate the cold rain more than the snow

I live at the foot of the mountains and it will be all snow here.

well I live very close to Billy so we are expecting a load of the white stuff, perhaps 6-10 inches.

What I have noticed here In NOVA over the last several years is that the plows, salt trucks etc are PRE positioned on the major arteries .Already today, there are many trucks just parked on the side of the road...just waiting for the first flakes to fall.

First sow flurry hit here in Reston about 10 minutes ago. Some are forecasting 5-8, others 6-10 . . the heavier amounts are going to be south of the Metro area, Fredericksburg, VA is looking at 10-12.

In the Triad, small-sized flakes are coming down at a pretty heavy rate and the roads are getting covered; still just a thin layer at 4:30, but with the way that some idiots drive it could get ugly out there.

It's supposed to change over to freezing rain / sleet tonight with 2 - 4" total accumulation. But with the cold temps this week, I'm sure we'll be dealing with icy roads for days.

Where you live Mark? I'm just outside Burlington.

In Greensboro. I grew up in Burlington. What area are you in, and are you getting any snow yet?

Here in NJ, it's 19 degrees (high temp of the day), anywhere from 6-14 inches of the white stuff predicted tonight and 6-8 more on Wednesday.

Near ARMC and yep, we were getting some, but it's changing over to rain and sleet.

Looks as if they've lowered the totals to 4-5 inches for NoVA . . w/ heavier amounts way further south . .

My eyeball estimate based upon taking my dogs out this am is approx. 6 inches here in NOVA

Now I must shovel said snow

We got about 3 inches of snow and about 1/2 inch of sleet of top of it.

Thing about this snow at least here is that is VERY fine powder and dry. Just perfect for skiing if you are into that and shoveling it really is fairly easy as opposed to the wet kind that can really weigh you down.

The interesting thing about driving around here is when people from up north laugh about school closing and stuff and think they can drive in the snow only to realize down here it isn't snow but ice. Often they don't get very far. Snow is pretty easy to drive on. Ice can be a little different. I've done it before and made it but it is not fun.

Exactly. I'm laughing at my idiot neighbor from Pittsburgh, who is currently trying to shovel his driveway without any success because it's nothing but a sheet of ice.

Be safe, everyone.
