I'm going to be visiting my cousin this weekend, who happens to be a State grad, so there's NC State crap all in his place. Where does he live? In Durham directly across from the Duke campus. So yeah, I'm going to have to try very hard to maintain my sanity for two days. Prayers would be appreciated.

2 days . . ? Sounds like you be f^&$ed . .

Man 'o man, all I can say is 'hang in there . . '

NC State hosts Miami on Saturday at 3:00. You should go and wear all your Carolina gear.

Also, go take a dump on the doorstep of Hansbrough Indoor Stadium. Bonus points if you do it at half court.
That isn't a bad idea, but with the fact that I haven't been to a UNC basketball game in quite some time, it would hurt my street cred if I were to show up at a freaking State game for no apparent reason.

@coolwaterunc If Duke isn't playing at home this weekend (I'm not going to waste the effort to look it up), they usually keep Cameron unlocked and you can walk right in.

Rivalry aside, you should do it. It's pretty jaw-dropping how SMALL that gym is. Like incredibly small. It looks way bigger on TV (which is saying a lot I know).

I've been in that cesspool before, and I'm not doing it again. Screw that place. Not worth my time.
If it makes you feel better (or less bad), the ONLY Carolina-Duke bball game I ever have been able to get tickets for and attend was my senior year at UNC..........

It was the Austin Rivers game.

:mad::eek::oops:

Holy crap, that sucks. That was one of the suckiest nights of my life (the day after was brutal), so I can only imagine what it was like to attend that. I've always wanted to attend a Duke game at UNC though. It will probably never happen for a couple of reasons:

1.) Unless you're a student or a Ram's Club member or something, nope.

2.) Even if I were given an opportunity, the fear of witnessing something like you did would overtake me.

Something I was always curious about, how does it work for students trying to get tickets for that game? Is it strictly luck of the draw?

It sucks, plain and simple. And when I say it "sucks," I mean it's nerve-racking and frustrating. Unless it's changed since 2012 which I doubt it has, here's the process:

- The sign-up period for a specific game or range of games (2-3) opens up and all you do is go on the GoHeels website, put in your student ID, and request a ticket. This sign-up period is almost never announced though. You just gotta keep up and pay attention (demand is so high as it is, they don't advertise it).
- You wait.
- You get an email like 3-5 days before the game saying if you did or did not get a ticket. Say you did get a ticket.........woohoo! But wait, there's more....
- PHASES! Yes, phases. Because the Dean Dome is a library and doesn't even pretend to aid students in creating a raucous atmosphere, this is how the tickets are divvy'd up. There's 5 phases, Phase 1, Phase 2, all the way to Phase 5. Phase 1, and only Phase 1 is "Riser seats" -- the bleachers directly behind the basket on the left-side of the screen as you're watching on TV. I think that 300 students get those. It may be less. I only got riser seats for like 5 games my entire three years at UNC, and no the Duke game wasn't one of them). Phase 2 is still pretty good....it's that raised section behind the risers (and behind press row), and also a side section near the band. Phase 3 I'm unsure of, but I know Phase 4 and 5 are upperdeck.
- Let's say you get tickets AND get a Phase 1. Awesome!!!! Right? Well, yes, it is awesome. But.....now you have to wait. For Phase 1, you have to line up outside the Smith Center 2.5 hours early. And you just sit there. If it's 20 degrees? Too bad, bring a jacket. Phase 2 is 2 hours early, Phase 3 is 1.5 hours early, etc. I ended up getting to the point where I'd buy a bottle of Coke from the student union, drink half, and fill the other half with bourbon while I waited for 2~ hours doing nothing.

So that's the process. What was also kinda frustrating was you basically never got to sit with your friends at games because they always got different phases than you.

Damn it, if Zeller had just had the presence of mind NOT to bite for Rivers' ball fake . . . . .

A two-point basket forces overtime and Duke was gassed. I'm still salty about it  We've pissed so many games away against Duke under Roy (of no fault of Roy's by the way. Just mental failures by otherwise clutch players)

I absolutely loathed everything about the student ticket process for bball games when I was a student. The lottery system was ridiculous. The phases were ridiculous. The amount of time you had to wait in line outside beforehand was ridiculous. The seats allocated to students were ridiculous (only thing courtside was the tiny risers section, one or two other lower level section(s), and the rest was upperdeck).

You had to get in there so damn early that it was common for students to bring books and homework in to work on while you sat in your seat for 2 hours prior to tipoff. Nothing sets the stage for a raucous college basketball environment like a couple hours of Econ 101 in your seat beforehand

I wish it was that way. I would've gotten many more tickets.
It was first come, first served. That tended to favor people who were truly dedicated to being there.

I have a lot of funny stories about camping outside the Dean Dome (later, in the Bowles Lot) in freezing weather. One year, after untold amounts of Jim Beam, my roommate made out with three different girls in the same night. The best part is he thought it was the same girl.

Exactly why I said I wish that's how it was when I was in school... ;)

That is epic on several levels. Respect.

I thought you were going to say that you had to get off the couch. Which you do indeed have to get off the couch...and go spend time with your stupid moo cousin in crap Durham. Yeah, I'd say that sucks.

I made it back alive. Too much Duke, obviously, but I actually thought Durham was a pretty nice place. Is it okay to say that? lol It's been so long since I've been there that I've forgotten what it was like. I don't drink, so no craft beer for me.

It's not the greatest place in the world, but I thought it was pretty nice. Decent shops, pretty good food, and even all the dookies seemed like pretty cool people. Got some ribbing here and there for wearing my UNC stuff, but it was just all in good fun. Seemed like good dudes. Didn't have a bad experience. I was surprised.

Well, my Saturday was spent cleaning up my house where that drunk guy I talked about threw mud all over it trying to get out of my yard. However, a friend of ours asked us to go to Nashville with them for her birthday. So I drove (me, my wife, and her and her husband) and because of all the crap in Nashville (NHL AS game) I had to pay $35 just to freakin' park. So we went to eat for about an hour and a half and was out the price of the meal (maybe $40 bucks, which isn't a big deal as I knew I was going to eat) and $35 to park. I was kind of pissed a little that they didn't offer to pay the parking since they asked us to go and I offered to drive.

Make him help you finish cleaning up your house.
