The Heels are sitting at #5 this week with 1 game to play. #1 Kansas lost to WVU, #3 Maryland lost to Michigan, #4 Michigan State lost to Iowa. If WVU knocks off #2 Oklahoma, will the Heels be back at #1? And if WVU knocks off #1 and #2 in the same week, where do you see the #11 Mountaineers landing next week?

As long as we beat State, UNC Should be #2 next week. The #1 will depend on the outcome of the Oklahoma/WVU game. WVU is a top 6 team right now regardless of the Oklahoma outcome.

If they do beat Oklahoma, I think they have a good claim at the #1 spot. Being a 1 loss team and beating the #1 AND #2 team in the same week is hard to not have a claim at the top spot.

If they lose, Oklahoma takes the #1 spot, with us not too far behind at #2

I think you're right in that regardless of the OU/WVU outcome, WVU should crack the top 6. They won't though and even if they beat Oklahoma, it would not shock me if Kansas AND Oklahoma both are ahead of the Mountaineers. Regardless though, I see the Heels moving up NO LESS than #2.

Amazing to think that UVA has beaten WVA and Villanova, yet the wahoos are about 5th or 6th at the moment in the ACC...Have to agree that beating the #1 and #2 team in the same week is reason enough to vault a team to the top of the rankings, especially since that team is 14-1 overall right now with 15-1 as a possibility if the Mountaineers beat the Sooners in Norman. tomorrow?....

Yep, tip time is 4pm. Be some good watching after watching the Heels dismantle the woofies.

Let's beat the woofies and not worry about the rest. As long as we keep winning games, nothing else really matters. Roy seems to be in the teams grill, reminding them that State had more losses last year and held the Heels to the lowest point total ever in the Dean Dome. Nothing is a foregone conclusion in the ACC.

I could care less where we are ranked today, I only care at the end of the season wqhen seeding for the NCAAT takes place and I especially care when we have played out last game of a season, if we win our last game of the season that it doesn't matter where we are ranked in jan !

Just beat the pups and I'm happy. But I expect to be #2 next Tuesday!
It's good to be the King, again!

Go Tar Heels!

I respect the opinion, but don't understand when ppl say they don't care where we're ranked? I understand "Being number one in April" trumps all ...but if we're not ranked near the top when March comes around doesn't that somewhat dim our chances? For me I'm STOKED that were possibly going to be ranked #2 next week .. I think it's imperative to stay as close to the top as possible all year to ensure that #1 seed come tourney time

They're just saying the PC thing and pretending they're one of the players or coaches and the media is interviewing them or something. They care.

I DO care where we are ranked throughout the year because it has some bias on where the Heels are seeded for the tournament, the networks lean toward showing the higher ranked teams, therefore the Heels get more national exposure, and it helps recruiting exponentially.

Not to derail your thread, but your OP reminded me: it's just so silly that we wouldn't add WVU to the ACC. Perfect fit for the league in basketball AND football, as well as perfect geographical fit and would be another middle finger to the Terps

Cmon cool, don't you know if you or I talk about rankings, or a game down the road that isn't the next one, that the team will see that and become complacent and lose a few games in a row?
