Tar Heels Celebrate 90th Season at Kenan Stadium
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina has announced several home game designations at Kenan Stadium for the 2016 football season, including Family Weekend on Sept. 24 vs. Pittsburgh, Homecoming on Nov. 5 vs. Georgia Tech, Military Appreciation Day on Nov. 19 vs. The Citadel and Rams Club Day on Nov. 25 vs. NC State.
In 2016, Carolina will celebrate its 90th season of football at Kenan Stadium, home of the Tar Heels since 1927. Set in the middle of campus and surrounded by pine trees, Kenan Stadium will host the season opener on Sept. 17 vs. James Madison. Carolina returns seven starters from one of the nation’s most prolific offenses, including all-conference tailback Elijah Hood, wide receivers Ryan Switzer, Mack Hollins and offensive linemen Lucas Crowley, Caleb Peterson and Jon Heck. Carolina also returns six starters from the country’s most improved defense, including All-ACC defensive tackle Nazair Jones and defensive backs Des Lawrence, Donnie Miles and M.J. Stewart.
The Tar Heels had a season to remember in 2015, winning the ACC Coastal Division and going undefeated at Kenan. Carolina won a school-record 11 consecutive games during the regular season, finished No. 15 in the country in both the AP and Coaches Top 25 polls and set more than 60 team and individual records.
