Sports gambling problem

I’m hesitant to post here, but I am hopeful I will get some meaningful, practical advice.

While I don’t want to get into specifics, I have come to recognize that I am way in over my head with a sports gambling problem. I take full responsibility, but the root cause has frankly been a string of really bad luck.

If other posters have faced the same issue perhaps they could post what worked and how they managed to get out of a serious situation.

I don’t really need you to tell me how stupid I am for getting in this predicament. I promise you that no one is harder on me than I am on myself. I just want some empathy and some advice.

This is the last place I'd come to for meaningful, practical advice. Why haven't you been riding Alabama 1h all year? 10-0 or 9-1 ATS, I've cleaned up on them.

That said, the advice above is really the only advice. Stop gambling. Immediately. Work with whoever you owe and make sure they know you will make good on it and get a plan to do that.

I assume this is with a bookie? How much do you owe him?

Skip town. Go start anew in a small town out west. Change your name and appearance and keep your head down. Get a job paying you under the table. You can never go home again.

You’re an addict and bad luck isnt the root cause. Seek professional treatment and support groups. Theres a ton of gambling addiction hot lines that can steer u. Come clean with your family. Best of luck.

Take whatever you were going to bet.... and just bet the opposite. You'll make it back in no time.

But seriously, stop betting. I've had some pretty shitty weeks betting, but I've always made sure I've never wagered more than I can afford to lose. That's the point you need to remember, and if you can't, you can't be betting.

I hear Carolina and over is a lock tonight.

I’m still here. Thank you for the serious comments. I’ve known for a while that I might need help. I’m just not sure what to do next.

Consider this gambling problem resolved.
Some day, and that day may never come, I will call upon you to do a service for me. Until that day accept this as a gift on my daughter's wedding day.

Wtf...

This is why I only play poker.

You're still playing against the house with poker. Hopefully, you're at least playing limit in cash games.

Usually 20 or 50 dollar buy in with one rebuy. Cash chips. Technically it’s no limit rules but nobody has enough cash to push people around. I never play online.

I started playing really young and actually built up a bankroll in high school that is still rolling for me. I thought about trying to play professionally until I learned enough to know how good those guys really are.

That's not a bad situation. The problem with no limit is what you described in that post. A table full of deep pockets is generally going to get you sooner or later.

As for the "professional" players. Many of them are bankrolled, which means they aren't playing with their own money.

Quit gambling and take up drinking.

That’s why we use the single rebuy rule. There can only be so much money on the table at any given time.

Yeah almost every elite poker player is sponsored by several companies. They’re insanely good though. The expected value calculations on the fly are one thing. Once you add in all of the betting strategy it gets pretty crazy though. Still have to catch a run of cards at some point regardless of how good you are though.

I knew a guy who opened 20 open parlays all with one team as part of the pair. That team lost. He ended up with some slashed tires and broken windows even though his bookie was his frat brother.

When I used to gamble I only gambled big money during baseball season. That way you can always double down on the Yankees or any decent baseball team.

Giants +3

Hopefully you bet it all and are back to rolling. I would start going heavy on college basketball. Don't let some bad luck get you down. You are due.

Bet all you have on the Vols - the points tomorrow night. You are welcome.
