What a win. Some are putting it in their TOP 5 games against Duke, even! The story of the week was Coach K, but the UNC Offense stole the narrative, scoring a whopping 1.12 points per possession. The Heels shot the ball well, but took care of the ball in an historic way. With a 3.0 assists/turnover ratio, it ranks as the 23rd best handling of the ball in the last 949 games for UNC. The Heels turned it over on only 6% of their possessions, the 7th best performance since 1996.
This UNC team is absolutely outstanding at FT shooting. In this game, the Heels drilled 86% of their 22 FTAs. Only 57 times have they done a better job. Shooting 77% from the line, this version of the Heels is the best free throw shooting team UNC has had since 1996.
This game was completely devoid of defense. UNC's defense was in the programs' 18th percentile, while Duke's performance was in the 9th percentile of UNC opponents. Not too sure either team will get too far in the NCAA tournament playing defense this bad.
The greatest games against Duke? A few come to mind. the '77 Walter Davis game, the '89 ACC Championship, the '91 ACC Championship, '92 Home (Bloody Montross), '09 Home (Henderthug), '05 Home (Marvin Williams), '99 Away, '90 Home (Hurley cried), and '94 Away (Wallace went off). I didn't love that '95 game (Stackhouse dunk, Capel halfcourt shot) because Duke was _terrible_ that year and it should never have even been a game. This one is way way up there, though. It was a special week for Duke, and we played the spoiler again (Oh, did you forget the Frank Beamer game?)
