Discussion
This game looked like a team that was at home against a team that was visiting. The UVA program, famous for its slow tempo and defense, looks like a shell of what it once was. They had no answers for UNC's guards from the arc, and had no answer
to Bacot, who had one of his best games as a Heel. That didn't come by accident. UNC did a good job of feeding Bacot all game and it paid handsome dividends.

As we see from the stats, UNC was above average 44% from behind the arc. UVA has a reputation for slow play, and this game was no exception. There were only 141 total possessions in this game. We've only seen
a slower pace in 40 other games since the 3 point arc was introduced.

However the most important factor is their defensive performance. They allowed UVA to only score 0.85 points per possession; exactly Dean Smith's defensive goal. UNC only forced turnovers on 15% of UVA's possessions. So was it a lackluster performance by UVA or did UNC force the issue? I tend to think the former, but it was still a good showing for UNC who clearly was prepared to play this game.

To me the most interesting aspect of this game was shot selection. UNC opted to take a 3 on 42% of its possessions (34% is typical). Only 63 times in the last 934 games have they opted for more shots behind the arc. While UVA shot well from behind the arc, it only opted to take 21% of its shots from there. This is a big factor in the discrepancy of points per possession for these two teams.

Unbelievable that we have a week off before seeing, yet again, GT. The ACC and their scheduling. SMH.
