Discussion
This was the new 2nd worst UNC performance since 1996, and supplants the previous game on that dubious list. It was the 8th-worst defensive performance in that period as well. For some reason we have guards who think they don't have to play defense, and we have big men who have no idea to help with the guards are beaten. This isn't all on the players, either. While we finally saw one possession of 2-3 zone, it was a version a little league team could easily score against. After one possession, the coach abandoned it and effectively did nothing to knock Wake Forest off its rhythm.

The only thing saving this from being a 40+ point loss was a staggering 19 possession advantage for the Heels. It was the 4th best rebounding advantage UNC has had since 1996.

From the field, UNC was a rotten 33%, the program's 22nd worst showing in the period. This likely came from extremely poor ball movement. UNC's assists/possession tally was 0.09, the 12th worst in the period. On a good note, UNC only turned the ball over on 11% of its possessions.

This was a fast-paced game, with 185 Total Possessions (84th percentile). That's noteworthy as a friend just informed me that the ACC ranks 30th out of 32 conferences in Pace of Play. UNC and Wake Forest are the only two ACC teams that rank in the Top 100 nationally in pace.

The Heels have 4 games against bad opponents, with the first 3 at home. This team fares well in these conditions, but nothing it does in this period will directly affect its reputation in the NCAA comittee's eyes. UNC has only 3 more occasions in the regular season to impress, and 2 of those are against Duke. The season is on the verge of slipping away, and if the players and coaches continue doing what they've always done, they will be in the NIT.[/b]
