• North Carolina fell to 8-4 overall and 5-3 in the ACC with a 28-21 loss to NC State.
• Carolina leads the series 66-34-6.
• Quarterback Mitch Trubisky completed 23 of 38 pass attempts for 280 yards and three touchdowns. He has 28 touchdowns this year, which ties Bryn Renner (2012) for the single-season school record.
• Trubisky set the single-season record for passing yards at Carolina with 3,468. The previous mark was 3,418 by T.J. Yates in 2010. He passed Mike Thomas for seventh place in UNC career passing yards with 4,482.
• Senior Ryan Switzer had 13 receptions for 171 yards and a touchdown. He became UNC’s single-season leader in receptions with 91. Dwight Jones held the previous record of 85, which he set in 2011. Switzer’s touchdown in the second quarter was the 18th of his career, which is tied for fifth in UNC history.
• Switzer extended his school record for career receptions to 239. He passed Wake Forest’s Michael Camponaro (229) and Clemson’s Aaron Kelly (232) to move into sixth place in ACC history in receptions.
• It was the third time this season and in his career that Switzer made at least 10 receptions in a game. He had a career-high and school-record tying 16 against Pitt, had 14 the following week at Florida State and 13 today vs. NC State. No other Tar Heel in history has more than one game with at least 11 receptions.
• Switzer’s 171 yards receiving are the second-most in his career behind the 208 he had earlier this season against Pitt. It was his fourth 100-yard receiving game of the season.
• Switzer has 1,027 receiving yards this year, which is the third-highest single-season total in school history. He is one of just three Tar Heels with more than 1,000 yards receiving in a season. Hakeem Nicks (1,222 in 2008) and Dwight Jones (1,196 in 2011) are the others.
• Switzer had one punt return for 13 yards today and moved into sixth place in ACC history with 1,075 career punt return yards.
• Senior WR Bug Howard had a 48-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter. It was his team-leading seventh touchdown catch of the year and his 17th as a Tar Heel. He is tied for seventh in UNC history in TD receptions.
• WR Thomas Jackson had a 4-yard touchdown catch early in the final quarter. It was Jackson’s 16th reception of the season and his fourth for a touchdown. Jackson is tied for third on the team in TD catches this year.
• NC State out-rushed the Tar Heels, 259 to 133. It’s the 22nd time in the last 25 meetings that the winner of the game had an advantage in rushing yardage.
• Elijah Hood led Carolina in rushing with 56 yards on 11 carries. Quarterback Mitch Trubisky matched his previous high in rushing yards with 55 (also had 55 last week vs. The Citadel).
• Nick Weiler made all three of his point after attempts. He has 268 career points, which is fourth all-time at Carolina. He is second in UNC history with 151 made PATs.
• Carolina finished the year 4-2 at home with losses to Virginia Tech and NC State.
• North Carolina wore all black uniforms for the first time since facing Miami at home in 2013. The Tar Heels are 0-2 when wearing all black uniforms.
• Larry Fedora is 40-24 in five seasons at Carolina and 74-43 overall.
• Today marked just the second loss at home for Carolina in the last 13 games.
