GAME PREVIEW

North Carolina looks to close out the season with a win over in-state rival NC State on Friday, Nov. 25 at Noon. The game will be televised by ESPN. This is the first time the two rivals have met on a Friday since the 1995 game in Raleigh. North Carolina will honor 16 seniors on Friday, many of whom have made a significant impact on the UNC record book.

Carolina is coming off a 41-7 win at home vs. The Citadel. Quarterback Mitch Trubisky threw three
touchdown passes, T.J. Logan returned a kickoff 100 yards for a score and safety Dominquie Green picked off a pass and returned it 58 yards for a touchdown in the win. Defensively, Carolina held the Bulldogs out of the end zone until the fourth quarter and forced a season-high four turnovers, including three fumbles and an interception.

NC State is coming off a 27-13 loss to Miami last Saturday and must win this week to be bowl eligible.

PLAYING ON FRIDAY

*This is the first Friday game for UNC since beating NC State in the Friday after Thanksgiving in 1995 in Raleigh by a score of 30-28. This is believed to be just the second time Carolina has played a home game on Friday since it became a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1953. Carolina played Duke on Friday, Nov. 26, 1993.

CAROLINA-NC STATE SERIES NOTES

*North Carolina leads the series with NC State, 66-33-6.

*A brief look at the last four games: Carolina defeated the Wolfpack 43-35 in 2012 on Giovani Bernard’s 74-yard game-winning punt return with 13 seconds remaining. In 2013, the Tar Heels earned their first win at Carter-Finley Stadium since 2005 with a 27-19 victory. In 2014, the Wolfpack scored a 35-7 win at Kenan Stadium. In 2015, Carolina bolted to a 35-7 first-quarter lead and Elijah Hood rushed for a career-best 220 yards as the Tar Heels earned a 45-34 victory.

*The Carolina-NC State series is the fourth-most-played in ACC history. Carolina is part of four of the five most-played series in ACC history.

*The team that has held the rushing advantage has won 21 of the last 24 meetings. The lone exceptions came in 2004 when Carolina won 30-24, but was outgained on the ground, 304-164; in 2009 when Carolina had 159 rushing yards to NC State’s 76 in a 28-27 Wolfpack victory; and in 2013 when State held a 212-152 advantage in rushing. Last season, Carolina outrushed the Wolfpack, 374-308.
