Seems to me we have the statistical advantage in almost every category except rushing yards allowed. And as has been pointed out to me already, neither OSU(Cowboys) nor PSU nor Villanova have very good rushing attacks. Villanova averages 200 YPG but most of that was racked up against Lehigh and Towson.

Pitt has been particularly vulnerable against the pass, giving up several long plays. They're susceptible to the long ball and we have the QB and the receivers to exploit that. They are also averaging 2.67 TO per game, something that could prove very costly with our explosive offense.

Having Drennon, and especially Naz back on defense, makes a huge difference. Our boys will want to build some momentum going into the FSU game. Limit explosive plays as Fed calls them, win the TO battle, and we win this game.

Great job with the statistical analysis, as usual RH!

You're all over it, @Archer2. One small point of clarification. Pitt is actually gaining an average of 2.7 turnovers per game. They rank 9th nationally in that category. Ball security will be at a premium for UNC on Saturday.

The stat that has me most worried is that they're only allowing opponents to convert 29% of their third downs. The Heels will have to find a way to sustain drives or it could be a long day.

Well hell, I totally misread that one. My bad. And that's a very key statistic too, perhaps the second most important behind final score. Knock on wood, we've been taking care of the ball so far. I heard Fed say our defense has forced our opponents to put the ball on the ground a lot this year but we just haven't been able to get the ball. Forcing TO's can atone for not having a great rush defense. We gave up a lot of yards last year but would come up with timely TO's when we really needed them. Fed says we have to do a better job at forcing TO's.

They are stout on 3rd down defensively. They're allowing 29% conversions and we're converting 52% of our 3rd down attempts. So something has to give. Minimizing 3rd and long situations would be a good step in that direction, ergo why I like to see us run the ball on 1st down most of the time.
