In the spirit of trying to poast more threads as @BillyL asked for, are there any movies any of you are looking forward to this summer?

Maybe something comic book based (Deadpool 2, Ant-Man and the Wasp)?

A trip to a galaxy far, far away (Solo: A Star Wars Story)?

Blockbuster sequels (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Mission: Impossible-Fallout, Ocean's 8, Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado)?

Something for the whole family (Incredibles 2, Hotel Transylvania 3, Christopher Robin)?

Something new and unique (Hotel Artemis, Sorry to Bother You, The Happytime Murders)?

Or are all of you already in line for Mamma Mia 2?

They should stop making superhero movies for at least 10 years.

They should stop making superhero movies for at least 10 years.
To expand slightly on my previous poast, I at least want to get through Avengers 4 which is next May, because most of the OG Avengers will hang it up at that point. However, Black Panther made a buttload of money, so they won't stop that soon. It wouldn't be as bad with the overload if other studios that don't know what they are doing would stop (looking at you Warner Brothers, with the exception of Wonder Woman which was 3/4 really good and 1/4 just ok).

WB executives just need to get out of the way and let the film people make the movie. It doesn't have to make the exact same amount marvel does to be a success. I would be ok with less marvel dick sucking,. So if they want to take a break they can, unless they want to stop the cookie cutter crap.

Yeah, WB was just all about putting the cart before the horse with the DC movies because they were seeing what Marvel had and wanted to copy the result. One of the reasons the Dark Knight trilogy is so good is because Nolan was able to tell the story he wanted, he wasn't having to worry about teasing what other movies are out there and whatnot. He fleshed out Batman as a character and was able to give Bruce a proper arc. Part of the reason WW is as successful as it was is because it actually focuses on her and on giving us a good story with good character development. BvS is a mess, same with Suicide Squad, and Justice League was just ok when it should have been awesome but there were seeds laid in those movies where they could make some awesome things. Just have to see if they (and audiences) have the patience.

To be fair, I'm not just criticizing WB or DC here. Sony did a really bad job with Spider-Man when it was just trying to keep the rights away from Marvel, and I have very low expectations for the Venom movie they are putting out this year (which will have no Spidey in it). Fox bombed Fant4stic to keep it out of Marvel's hands (God, that movie was bad), but they kind of knew what they were doing with X-Men (Most of the X-Men movies are good, even if they always go to the Professor X/Magneto/Wolverine well at the expense of other characters like Cyclops and then make Mystique really important because Jennifer Lawrence became huge). There are also studios trying to begin any sort of shared universe franchises like Universal with the monster movies (The Mummy was supposed to kick off a universe with Frankenstein, The Wolfman, Dracula, etc) or a Hasbro universe (G.I. Joe and various other toy inspired movies).

How in the hell is it only Avengers 4? Shouldn't it be Avengers 27 by now?
Well, that's the whole shared universe. Avengers 4 will be the 22nd film installment in the MCU. By then, it will be 4 Avengers, 3 Iron Mans, 3 Captain Americas, 3 Thors, 2 Guardians of the Galaxy, 2 Ant-Man's, 1 Hulk, 1 Doctor Strange, 1 Spider-Man, 1 Black Panther, and 1 Captain Marvel.

To be fair, that's a lot. I'm not saying it isn't. But it seems like a lot more when there are a ton of TV shows and multiple movie studios trying to launch various properties as well.

WTF?

I'm admittedly way behind on all these superhero flicks, but isn't Venom essentially a Spiderman villain? How then do you make a Venom movie without Spiderman?
I'm sure that'll be the next one...and the next one...and the next one....and the next one...and the next one...and the next one....and the next one...and the next one...and the next one....and the next one...and the next one...and the next one....and the next one

Yes he is. The whole deal that Sony worked out with Marvel allows for Marvel to use Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (The Avengers movies), but Sony can still use characters associated with Spider-Man for other movies based on how they worked this deal out. So they have decided to make a movie with Tom Hardy playing Eddie Brock (the guy who becomes Venom) and basically turn him into an anti-hero. Sony just has no clue what they are doing. This movie will not do well

Seriously. They're scraping the bottom of the barrel at this point for superheroes. But they can always play the identity superhero game. Just come out with a Latino one for the next big blockbuster. Or an Asian one. Ooohh, maybe even a muslim one.

It will finally come to a conclusion in 2029 during Spider-Man vs Venom 8: Avengers Spider Venom Panther War of the Galaxy. Except it will end in a cliff hanger and maybe will continue in about 6 months.

This is the first teaser they put out for Venom.

This is the trailer they released last week or so, which has more finished visual effects, and does look admittedly better than the first tease, but still not excited for it without Spider-Man.

Complete with faux outrage to really drum up some conversation and anticipation for the movie. "Wow there are a ton of people out there who are just steamed about them making an Asian superhero!" "Really, where?" "Trust us, just see the movie if you're not a bigot"

Well, if Warner Bros knew what they were doing, we'd have great movies with Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and The Flash in them. I mean, Justice League made less money in its entire run than the latest Avengers movie made opening weekend.

Wake me up when they do a movie about The Wonder Twins.

"Wonder Twin powers....activate! Form of an alarm clock because I'm sleeping through all these superhero movies."

To get this back on a non-superhero track, are there any of the other 12 movies (11 if you disqualify Incredibles as superhero) I mentioned that anyone is interested in? Or a movie I didn't mention, like The Rock's version of Die Hard, Skyscraper? Or Jason Statham fighting a giant shark alongside Dwight from The Office in The Meg?

I doubt I'll see anything you have listed in the OP. I googled movies coming out soon. The one I'm most likely to see is Uncle Drew, because I thought the original short clips were funny. Second most likely is The First Purge. I haven't seen any of the first three purge movies, but they always interested me - maybe I'll actually watch them before that comes out and go and see it it in the theater (can't remember the last time I've been to the theater, has to be at least 5 years).

I have no idea what is upcoming as far as movies for this summer, but, I watched 'Dunkirk' last night on HBO and thought it was pretty good.

Just wanted to add something to this thread . . .

Oh, I got my garage cleaned and organized today, . . just thought you'd wanna know.

Dunkirk was one of my favorites from last year. Check out Darkest Hour also, they pair really well

Speaking of HBO, that Fahrenheit 451 movie looks interesting.

I only go to the theaters about 4-5 times a year, and rarely go on opening nights. However, my son wanted to see Solo so I’m taking him to that on the 24th. I am looking forward to it; hoping it will be good. I expect Donald Glover to be great as Lando.

Though not a summer movie, the only other movie in 2018 that has my interest in seeing at the theaters is Bohemian Rhapsody. However, I’ll likely wait on the early reviews because I’m fearful that it will either be fantastic or garbage.

Are you still using that movie pass frequently? Is it still $10 monthly?

I think that story was slightly overblown, but even if I don’t go again this year I will come out ahead on it, so it was still worth it
I don't expect it to be dead next month, but if they don't change something it won't be around next year. They need to find a way to monetize all that data they collect, raise the price 50%, come out with a family membership and limit the movies to once a week.

Yeah I always felt like it was too good to be true but I’m gonna utilize it while I can. I would keep the membership even if it became 15-20 a month but I understand others wouldn’t. I think a family membership might happen in the future

I would do the family membership if it was a reasonable price. The cheapest ticket you can get here is still going to run you at least $10 each. And those are before noon tickets. Multiply that by four and add in popcorn and drinks, it's $100 easy every time we go.

Not sure. I don't know much about it other than what they've shown in the trailer.
I would think it's heavily based on the book, but then again, adaptations take liberties with whatever they want. I think it looks pretty good though, Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon should be a good combination

I really enjoyed Watchmen and Punisher(2004), but Guardians was the best superhero movie I’ve seen. Any of those franchises up to bat this summer?
