It's time for my annual "Where are You Going This Summer" thread. For the first time in many years my wife and I have not been able to nail down a good trip yet. It's a work in progress. Where you guys going?

I'm taking one or both of the girls (depending on whether we decide the baby is ready for that kind of trip) on a whirlwind weekend trip to Iowa to visit (or meet, in the case of the baby) my late mother's family at the reunion. Lot of aunties want new cheeks to pinch.

We'll spend a couple weekends at Wrightsville, with friends coming down.

Otherwise we don't have any major trips planned this year. Hopefully next year things will be a little more settled and we can do something like that.

We will be in Southport in a couple of weeks. Is there much to do around there?

You know I've honestly never been to Southport, so I can't really comment on that specifically. But I love the Wilmington area in general. Great beaches for relaxing, and then a cool historic downtown area with good restaurants, bars, and shops.

There's a ferry from Southport to Fort Fisher so that might be fun, either just for the sake of the ferry ride or to visit the aquarium and/or fort.

Headed to Smith Mountain Lake for July 4th week . . wife has 2 sisters that live there year round and they are only 20 minutes apart.

Beach trip in the fall hopefully.

Where is Smith Mountain Lake?

The only places I want to go this summer is the beaches. Planning several trips to N. Myrtle , Virginia and OBX , already been to Morehead. All the beaches are easy and economical drives from Eastern N.C. especially after down sizing from the Tahoe and we have friends we can stay with therefore allowing more $ for alcohol.

I love the outer banks, especially Ocracoke.

My mistake . . when I said 'this wknd', I was referring to that July 4th weekend, as anywhere and everywhere will be crowded that week . .

I'm in Reston . .
When you go the the N.C. beaches do you take 81- 77 or do you go down down 95? I hate 95!

Down 95 taking Exit 119 and going through Goldsboro for lunch at Wilbers, usually arriving between 11:30-12 noon.
Oh man do I love Wilbur's. There is a place almost right across the street from Wilbur's called McCall's. The BBQ is not as good as Wilbur's but they have a buffet that is out of this world and it includes thieir BBQ.

Cape Cod & the islands (Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket) a couple times this summer for me. And as mentioned previously, a trip to Nova Scotia. That's the extent of what I have planned now, but may add some more.

Probably going on some trips in the fall as well - Chapel Hill, maybe Miami for the game, and if I really get my ducks in a row, me and the gf have been eying a trip to Iceland-London-Paris. Icelandair offers a free stop in Iceland for any flight from the US to Europe, so figured we'd take advantage of that (not sure if Icelandair services the cities close to you guys though).

went to hilton head last week when school got out.
Long story but I used to date a girl who lived in Hilton Head. I love the pace of life there and the way they've developed the island to preserve its beauty. Always enjoyed visiting and should probably make a return trip soon.

You guys already know what I'm doing for vacation this summer. Have yet to nail down dates or details but I'm working on it.

Great thread @prlyles. Thanks for revisiting the topic.

5 star thread

I'm going to the GOP convention to make sure nothing happens to my cash cow.

Other than that, pretty low key summer. Beach trip to Seabrook last week in July. I'm sure we will backpack and camp 3 or 4 weekends as well.

@Raising Heel went to high school on hilton head...have to say, since i officially left in 1990, if they're trying to get to n.myrlte beach, they're almost there.

luckily, i am aware of what to avoid at certain times, but preserving isn't in their vocab now...and bluffton, wow, just terrible...they are running out of land.

if you ever go back, let me know.

Zion and Bryce Canyon are great parks. Our national parks is one example of tax dollars well spent IMO.
Where are the grammar police when you need them? Did I use "is" correctly in the above? "are" just didn't sound right.

... below the gnat line ...
Lol some days you really do learn something new.

Well.....my trips aren't nearly as cool as y'all.

I'm going to Cairo for a wedding I'm part of in July.

I buried the lede. It's Cairo, Ga. Haven't heard of it? Jackie Robinson was born there and they make syrup there. That's. About. It. Oh did I mention it's below the gnat line and the wedding it OUTSIDE? Yay.
First thing I thought was I don't think I would be going to Cairo, then I read the bottom.

You couldn't convince me to go anywhere in Africa or the Middle East. Ever.

Also, I left out a trip. For my my buddy's bachelor party, we are going camping up in the Smoky Mts. To me, that's pretty ghey. I would've preferred the stereotypical late 20s bachelor party of bars --> strip club --> VIP room --> Waffle House. But that's just me.

The best bachelor party I ever went to was in a private home and included strippers and hookers. When I got there the hookers were already walking around semi-nude. Unfortunately it wasn't my bachelor party.

I hope the hookers were for people other than the bachelor!!

I would LOVE to party with Pitino. Easily one of the best personalities of any college coach, basketball or football.

Plus, given his well deserved nickname of "Quick Rick" you could clean up on his scraps for free. He pays a hooker for an hour, but only needs 5 minutes - that leaves 55 minutes for you.

[for those who don't get the Quick Rick reference - see his official statement from his sexual assault investigation where he said the intercourse lasted "about 15-20 seconds"]

Rick Pitino has no need for foreplay.
