I think it's stupid some of those people have performed instead of Metallica. That probably wouldn't be a popular choice today, but they should have been at the top of the list in the 90's- early 2000's.
I don't think it would go over well as the main act, but they could do a song or two as a guest act. I don't think I've ever been to a sporting event and didn't hear a Metallica song.
Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, aren't older white guys the main fan base for football? That's the majority of rock fans as well.
I generally turn the channel when the halftime show comes on. There hasn't been anyone even decent since Tom Petty. I remember that petition to get Weird Al to do the show. I actually would have watched that one.
Prince/Petty back to back was great.

They are fine for what I'm doing during it which is usually eating/drinking at a SB party.
I never watch them... it's never been anything but a bizarre, out of place distraction to me. I sorta understand the whole entertainment thing, just like the commercials. But, it's never made sense to me.
Even if the band/performer is someone I like (which is very rare), I typically like them less after they perform at the Super Bowl.

Have you seen that Al Pacino movie where he’s the lawyer devil. Fergie looks like the possessed devil women in that movie.
BTW, that movie I’m talking about is pretty bad. So if you haven’t seen it, don’t.

So sick of all the whining about the shows. (Esp all my mid aged white evangelical fb friends who every year declare how satanic the performers are) They’re live performances and live performances NEVER translate well on tv. If they had the bands perform to the camera with the appropriate shots and lighting and audio quality instead of to the audience the performances would be much better to watch. But they dont. So they’re gonna suck. Prince and bruno mars were the least sucky i would say. I think they oughta forego music and have a comedian do some stand up and host an nfl blooper awards show

Why do we not just do the marching band thing? Marching bands are synonymous with football. And you'd eliminate people getting all riled up by someone's performance not being woke enough, or white enough, or black enough or trans enough, or cis enough, or feminine enough, or muslim enough. These performances are by and large, not good. It's not set up well for a live performance of a "rock band'. And all the work that has to go into it just to put out a shitty product that even if it were a perfect performance, only 50% of super bowl watchers like it.
On the other hand, bring marching bands back to super bowl halftime performances would be the thrill of a lifetime for high school and college kids from local institutions. Or hell, fly them in from wherever. I bet that's still considerably cheaper than paying Maroon 5, meeting all their needs and having to put a set together and whatnot.
