Suppose Joel and/or Theo Had Gone Pro Last Year...?

At the beginning of last season, plenty of folks here thought there was a reasonable chance that either Joel or Theo would go pro.

After we won the championship, some thought Joel might give it a shot.

We've now seen 1 game - albeit only an exhibition game where Roy was experimenting with lineups - without Joel.

So . . . how do you think we'd be this year without Joel?

Or without Theo?

Or without both?

Without Joel--NIT
Without Theo-NIT

When you lose 3/4 of your NCAA title front line you need an all-star backcourt to carrry the team.

Joel is a second round pick last year and this year. If Theo can improve his shot, I can see him getting selected in the late second round as a point guard and defensive specialist.

I think Theo could go in the 1st round IF he really boosts his outside shooting.

He so versatile and athletic, I think that's all that's holding him back.

Of course he'll have to stay healthy and he'll have to convince people his improved shooting isn't just a fluke.

No speculation.... it woulda been ugly!
I agree although, frankly, I think we'd be pretty good by the end of the season - based on the little I've seen of Jalek.

Imagine if JB had left (the more likely of the 2, since Theo needs to prove he can shoot AND stay healthy).

Jalek/Seventh
Theo/Kenny/Seventh/Andrew
Cam/Theo/Brandon
Luke/Garrison/Theo/Cam

Still plenty of quality off the bench. Same concerns up front.

Sure, we'd drop several more games early and mid-season. And that would hurt our seeding in the ACCT and any other post-season play (if any). But nobody would want to face that lower-seeded UNC team.

OK, so this is not likely to be a popular opinion but it is IMO reasonable. I think we are a elite 8 team if we can remain reasonably healthy, so lets get that out of the way first.

Now had Joel were no longer with us, yet again, I think we would be a elite 8 team again with the lack of notable injury qualifier. No slam at Joel but I do think we would be able to cover the PG position with Jalek and 7th, the position is better with Joel on the floor but I think by later season we could be good enough to be a elite 8 team without Joel. Without Theo much the same, feel Cam could step right in as our 3 and be backed up by either BRob or kenny, we are better with Theo but with out him I* still think we could be elite 8 level by season end. We learned to play with out Marcus and Brice.

Now if we had neither of them because I feel by later season we would have solid parts at their spots, I still think we would be elite 8, just a harder seeding to get there, more losses.

If we had Tony, Joel, and Theo honestly, still see us as elite 8 but with a better chance to get to the final 4, just would really depend on how much Tony would have improved over this off season. I assume it would have been a lot as most of our frosh do but I felt he had further to go than most did.

I still think, at the end of the day we go as far as our front court will allow and I do not know that our freshman front court guys are able to give us enough this season to be more than a elite 8 team. But Roy's teams, unless hit extra hard by injury to players he has depended on for that season, has teams that gel together by late season and become very hard outs and I think we would be that even if we didn't have Joel or Theo, glad we do have those guys because I do think we are much better with them but I as well think the kids behind them on the depth chart can play well also with increased PT that would be there if Joel and Theo were not. What kills you is to lose a key player late more so than not having a kid for the whole season, you learn to play without the kid that graduates or leaves early, very hard to lose a kid to injury late season when his back ups have not had the time to play in to their game. IMO of course.
