CAROLINA NOTES

• The Tar Heels are now 24-6 overall, 13-4 in the ACC.

• Carolina returns to action on Saturday at Duke at 6:30 p.m.

• Carolina clinched a double-bye in the 2016 ACC Tournament. The Tar Heels are assured of being no lower than the #4 seed in next week’s ACC Tournament.

• The Tar Heels finished their home schedule 15-1. This is the sixth time in the last 12 years the Tar Heels have won at least 15 games in the Smith Center.

• Carolina’s home winning percentage of .938 is the seventh best in the 31-year history of the Smith Center.

• The Tar Heels have won at least 13 ACC regular-season games for the 13th time overall and the seventh time in Roy Williams’ 13 seasons as head coach.

• Carolina has won 14 regular-season ACC games in 1957, 1984, 1987, 1993, 2005, 2008, 2011 and 2012. The Tar Heels have a chance to win their 14th on Saturday at Duke.

• Carolina is now 7-4 all-time against Syracuse, including 3-1 since the Orange joined the ACC.

• Roy Williams is 4-4 against the Orange.

• Williams is 774-208 as a head coach, 356-107 at Carolina, 154-61 in ACC regular-season action, 385-44 at home and 183-27 in the Smith Center.

• Carolina shot 41.2 percent from the floor, its lowest in victory since shooting 37.8 percent in a win at Virginia Tech on 1/24.


PLAYER NOTES

Senior guard Marcus Paige matched his season high with eight assists. He also had eight assists in UNC’s win at Syracuse on 1/9. Paige combined for 16 assists and three field goals in the two wins this year over the Orange.

• Senior forward Brice Johnson recorded his ACC-leading 18th double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds. He made one of the game’s biggest plays when he rebounded a missed three-point field goal and scored with 1:09 to play to give Carolina a 73-68 lead.

• Johnson led UNC in scoring for the 14th time this season.

• Kennedy Meeks had 10 points, his second time in double figures in the last 12 games.

• Justin Jackson had 10 points, his seventh game in a row in double figures and his 20th of the season.

• Isaiah Hicks had 10 points and matched his career high with five offensive rebounds.

• Joel Berry had 13 points, his 25th game in double figures (second only to Johnson). He made two three-pointers and has a team-leading 50 threes for the season. It was the only time this season he did not have an assist.

• Luke Maye had three offensive rebounds, all in the first half.
