Tar Heels At No. 17 In Initial CFP Rankings

Now, the challenge the rest of the year is to somehow, some way, leapfrog from 4 to 17. That will require running the table, at the very least. Just break the Virginia Jinx first.
And that means beating undefeated Clemson in the ACC Championship Game. Could that be enough? Perhaps, if a couple other P5 champs have at least 1 loss and only the SEC has. possible 2nd team in the running for the playoffs.

If we had not wasted last season so that we entered this year ranked, we would be a bit higher than 17 now, and that also would have been a big boost.

Continue to win and everything else will take care of itself. Just beat UVA up there.
Mack always losing to George Welsh in Charlottesville was 1 thing because George Welsh was a master of both game prepping/planning and making adjustments during games. Welsh routinely outcoached Mack in everything but recruiting.

But this is a flailing UVA team with a 1st year HC who is struggling to learn on the job.

I think you are absolutely correct. This year's ranking has been challenged by last year's inexcusable collapse in multiple games. As long as we don't collapse in the last four, I think the "Drake factor" now gives us an opportunity to make up for some lost ground.
