LOUISVILLE, Ky. (theACC.com) --- It had been five days since North Carolina's last game action, but the second-seeded Tar Heels showed no signs of rust in Thursday's 10-0 win over 11th-seeded Boston College as the 2017 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Championship resumed at Louisville Slugger Field.
Logan Warmoth went 4 for 5 to key UNC's 14-hit attack, and five Tar Heel pitchers combined on a two-hitter in the game, which was halted at the end of seven innings due to the tournament's 10-run rule. Leadoff hitter Brian Miller went 3 for 4, and Ashton McGee began the offensive onslaught with a two-run triple in the top of the first inning.
Warmoth's four hits matched a career high and pushed him past the 200 hit mark over his three seasons as a Tar Heel. Miller stands at 199 career hits after his three knocks Thursday.
North Carolina (45-11) now turns its attention to Friday's 7 p.m. Pool B game against rival NC State (34-22), with the winner advancing to meet Wake Forest or Miami in Saturday's 5 p.m. semifinal. Thursday's game was the final of the season for Boston College (25-28).
Tyler Baum (6-0) worked three innings and picked up the win on the mound. Baum yielded a pair of Boston College hits in the bottom of the first, then combined with four relievers to hold the Eagles hitless through the final six innings. The Tar Heel hurlers combined for six strikeouts and did not issue a walk.
Dan Metzdorf (4-6) started on the mound for Boston College and took the loss, yielding seven hits and five earned runs in his 2.1-inning stint.
UNC took two of three from NC State when the teams met in Chapel Hill on April14-16. NC State will enter Friday night's contest having won 14 of its previous 16 games. The Tar Heels have won 17 of their last 19.
