A teacher at my HS (who also coached tennis) used to tell us basketball players how he watched Wilt score 100 for the Warriors against the Knicks. Said he was right there at the Cow Palace, which is where the San Francisco Warriors played back in the day.
Trouble with that story is Wilt was playing for the Philadelphia Warriors and the game took place in PA. Since Wilt's feat happened before our time, we had no reason not to believe the teacher's story, but something didn't sound right. Had Google been around then I would have looked it up, but not having that convenience I just put it aside until after I graduated, when while watching an NBA game the announcer mentioned the 100 point game and how there was no footage, yada yada. That prompted me to grab an almanac and finally look it up. Busted.
