Going overseas instead of enrolling at Arizona.

Every other team that recruited him dodged a bullet while they take one to the heart.

Apparently Ferguson was going to have some elgibility issues and didnt want to go through a lenghty investigation. Went to a couple shady prep schools in texas. One the same as emmanual Mudaiy. He also skipped college

He traveled a rather sketchy road as I understand it and rumors started to rear their heads during his recruitment. Hmm, and as I recall some folks blasted those of us who called his recruitment into question.

Ha I remember that. You got lambasted for suggesting something fishy was going on. Sean Millers bff came running to call you out.

I am surprised more kids don't take this path and especially top talents. Frankly I hope they do more of this in the future because those kids whose only thought is to get paid should go ahead and do that and not worry with the extra ties that go along with playing in the NCAA. I mean, you do have to be a player and not just hype, we do see a lot of hype now days, the level of play is going to be harder in the euro game because you are playing with seasoned pros that will cut thru your hype in a second.

When you have the majority of these one & done kids that could not care less what school they commit to play for, they only care about where the best springboard is that gets me to the next level ASAP, euro ball is a next level that pays better than a college program will and it isn't that the NBA does not see you in euro play, the NBA loads a bunch of euro players in their drafts now days.

There is a brand new paradyne in the college game that has risen up, it is the Lebron James way where these high level recruits no longer are looking to make a deal by themselves but are not looking to team up with 2 or 3 other one & done guys to go to a school as a group. The very same thing they saw lebron do first in Miami and now in Cleveland. So why not take the band on the road for a higher paying gig rather than have to be bothered by things you do not care about and have to act as if no one is paying you anything other than a scholarship?

Look, the college game is where kids have always gone to learn the skills and have the coaching they need to take the raw talent they have and develop their game to be as sharp as it can become before they join the grown men in professional sports. But if you don't think you need that and you don't if you are intent on being a one & doner, you do not develop or learn in 1 or 2 semesters in college, then cut to the heart of things and go ahead and play for pay now. Euro teams would love to see a trio of one & doners come play for them for a year and they would pay big money for just that. And you would get skill development thou doubtful you would be coddled and spoon fed like the one & doners are that play in the NCAA. But if you think you are a grown man and ready to compete with other grown men, which is exactly the definition of a one & doner then go do it, don't be scared you are not good enough, you think you are good enough to play in the NBA day 1 of your freshman season in college so go get better paid in euro ball.

As mush as I hate the one & done nonsense, I hate the group think we have to all go to the same school deal even more. I thought you believed in yourself, I thought YOU were a great player, I thought YOU wanted to stand out as an individual? BUT, you have to bring your boyzs with ya because evidently you do not feel you can do it on your own. It is to bad the NBA does not draft you as a group, the euro team will...

This ain't about Ferguson being that good. Maybe him thinking he is, but....

We'd all love to see the baseball model but the NBA makes the rules and they aren't going to revert back to drafting unproven kids right out of high school. The best colleges can hope for is to say they have to be two years removed, vs the current one year requirement.

I'd like to see them make it three. If kids don't want to attend college, they can go to the NBDL or go overseas.

Many don't go oversees because college is tons of exposure which helps them build their brand in the united states.

Fair point but what if they play euro ball and blow up, not only can they brand themselves in the States but they can as well brand themselves in the Euro markets as well. Why is that important, would you prefer your brand to be American or Global? Very very few can brand themselves on the global level with out playing outside of this country. Right now Lebron can, maybe Durant, Curry may shortly get to that level but very few if any others.

Basketball is a growing international sport that is on the verge of explosion in the euro markets thanks in large part to the growing numbers of international players now in the NBA. But that is a 2 way street, as its popularity increases it will begin to open up the pocket books of the euro apperal companies ect, look at the money soccer players get once a Euro market gets that explosive growth in a sport. That makes global branding very important, you want them to buy your jersey in londan, Paris, Berlin, Moscow, and China!

Agree completely, but it isn't about the many miles the kid has to develop his game as much as the 6" between his ears.

And yet all the NBA ever had to do was not draft them, they have always had the ultimate power with the name they call on draft night...

Usually too much of a culture shock, adjustment period. Usually just go over, barely play and still get drafted high in the nba.

Ya know, there was a time, not to long ago, that very statement was used all the time concerning kids leaving college before their eligibility was done to enter the NBA?

Exactly. Can't blame the OAD-caliber guys for staying in the U.S. for their one year. Why go play in Greece / Italy / Turkey / et al and have to learn a new language, adjust to a new culture, and all that for only one year of living? Instead, you can play college ball for one year, only have to attend some remedial 101 level classes for a portion of two semesters, and then you're good to go.

The rule is to blame, not the recruits.

That would be one semester of 101 and then enroll for semester 2 and never attend a class.
Most OAD kids think they are good enough to go to the NBA in short order.

Truth is most of them aren't ready. Socially, finances, contracts and a myriad of things that are difficult for even the best equipped.
The OAD kids desire the top 10 contract that allows for a better contract down the road. Unfortunately many kids are coming out each year, so those are limited.
So, I would argue many land contracts, outside the top 10 or even 20 or way worse, second or third round thereby more difficult to gain traction to better contracts. So they end up in okay contracts and sit on the bench not showcasing their wares for several NBA seasons.
Our staff helps a kid study the situation, take advice from staff and our people in the NBA, they then all try to best figure the class they would leave in and who are their competitors. So some might stay another year to be a bit better than the next class. And for some of the OAD types even then it does not always work in their favor.

for the $$$$ , it's the universal language.
