Tez Walker Cleared By NCAA

Such great news for Tez, his family, continuing his education and football. The NCAA's statement was as 0910 said.

I'm sure you were already planning to ask Mack this question, but it would be nice to know what he thinks of that BS statement from the NCAA.
I'm thinking whatever Mack says candidly, he'll ask for it to be off the record at this point. I doubt his official statement contains any barbs. Let the bear go back to sleep.

Maybe. He's been pretty candid throughout this whole thing, though. He might just let Bubba handle it and move on, but I hope that he continues to tell us how he really feels.

I don't. TBH, I don't mind criticism of the NCAA; I've been saying that they are a joke for a long time. But I wish Mack (or Bubba) hadn't put them on the spot to begin with. That's practically begging for trouble, and I honestly cringed a little when they were being so public with the warranted criticism.

At this point, let sleeping dogs lie, and it's the AD's place to offer any final say. Which he did, getting in a little jab as the bell rings.

I think we better be extra careful for a while that one of our athletes doesn't get a free beer or sleep on a friend's sofa without paying rent.

I think one of the reasons the NCAA has become the joke that it is, is because people stay quiet. They feel like they can do what they want without any pushback. The system needs fixing. The courts have been doing it from the outside. I'm happy UNC can be the one doing it from the inside. Especially after all that BS they put us through.

The NCAA did something magical today. It made me hate them even more by finally doing the right thing. According the them WE hid information from THEM that magically made him eligible from the get go and this whole mess would have been avoided if WE just didn't hide it. Seriously how stupid do they think people are? That is in the hall of fame of dumb lies.

Dood we just went from an 8 or 9 win team to having an undefeated season. GDTBATH

Deep threat makes us a national contender
Our D is improved but kinda unproven. We haven't played a consistently decent offense yet. And Tez should help us be more well-rounded but he isn't going to make the OL better. Maybe he'll be amazing and he'll make coaches afraid of not having enough safety help, but Antoine Green was no slouch, you saw how far that helped toward the end of the yr last yr.

The NC attorney general wrote them a letter basically saying if they don't let him play, he plans to sue them for violating anti trust laws and laid out the legal reasoning showing why they would lose. I guess that was the missing documentation.
The NCAA has failed to stop[ the corporate rumination of the sport while playing hardline osclaist with the basketball tournament, which wrongly harms most major conferences in that sport. It is time for the NCAA to be destroyed.

There is a link to the letter in this article. You can see why the NCAA got scared.

Restricting Devontez Walker from playing at UNC this fall raises serious antitrust concerns as an illegal restraint of trade. In essence, the NCAA has imposed a sweeping, unilateral, one-year non-compete restriction, in violation of both state and federal law. See, e.g., 15 U.S.C. § 1 (barring agreements in restraint of trade); N.C. Gen. Stat. § 75-1.

AG Josh Stein is not playing.

Yeah, my guess is they got this and immediately turned it over to their legal department. About five minutes later their lawyers told them they need to make him eligible.

Deep threat makes us a national contender
it was a joke

ETA.. but when you say 'national contender', do you mean having a good shot at a nattie? Please. Suddenly adding a single deep threat is not going to elevate us to national championship contention. If I'm wrong I'll publicly humiliate myself. I mean even more than I do here.

I spent a little while trying to picture a corporate cow chewing the college football cud, and finally I had to wonder if you meant 'ruination'. Don't get me wrong, the image of a cow chewing on college football is a great visual, just kind of hard to put together in my mind. My tired old brain can't deal with it, so I'm gonna go with 'ruination'. Please advise if that's unacceptable.

we got what we wanted, and I'm sure (I hope) Mack recognizes that there is no practical reason for rubbing salt in the wound of an entity that can sneak up and bite us on the ass in a really painful way.

the reason the NCAA has held sway is because of how it all is structured. To begin with, you have to remember that it is merely a representation of all the member schools. THEY are the man behind the curtain.

So if a school has a beef, it is having it not just with the NCAA, but with all the other schools. And if any school wants to take meaningful action of some kind, it is singling itself out...no school not having a problem will want to stand with it. Any school not having a similar problem is going to say, thank God it isn't us. We are going to back the status quo because the status quo isn't f'ing with us.

The reason the schools back the NCAA instead of getting together for some reform, is that at this point the NCAA's focus isn't on its original mission, but is on maintaining the facade of amateurism in the major sports. The schools desperately need for that facade to be maintained because otherwise, the endeavor is seen to be professional (which it essentially is) and the whole house of cards crashes.

The case at hand is an example. The NCAA caved because of the threat of the faux amateurism being exposed.

In addition to adding a deep threat, Tez also gives Drake another sure handed receiver for picking up first downs.

He should create more space for the TE's and the running game as well. Then once the running game gets going, he's always waiting to make a house call off play action.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see a fairly significant increase in overall offensive production. 5 points a game, maybe even 10 if Lindsey opens up the playbook.

sound assessment. Also, he might be the playmaker that makes the difference in a tight game.....not directly, necessarily, but just because of the threat he poses.

Of course, we haven't seen him play a single down.

If OL plays matador then Tez won't have much an impact. The long-ball needs an extra moment to setup.

NCAA screwing UNC by making Tez serve a four game suspension, for no reason, then saying ok now you can play.

Seems they didn’t want to be sued for the possible millions of dollars it could have cost Tez by not playing with one of the best quarterbacks in the nation.

It's bigger than that. An antitrust lawsuit could turn the whole thing on it's head. Far reaching impact.

Having a legit deep threat, and an additional guy that can make plays in general will make teams have to think twice before dialing up extra pressure though. So it hopefully takes a little pressure off the OL. I’m interested to see if we have a way to utilize Tez in the screen game. Utilize the explosiveness with high percentage throws.
