so the rg3 thread has me thinking...we all have a favorite team and they have their qb.

give me the backup qb in the league that you would feel most comfortable leading your team if your starter was out.

There are 2 ways to think about this - (1)Which back up QB is the best? Or (2) Which back up is closest to the starter and would minimize drop off best from the 1 to the 2? Because I don't think the answers would be the same.

For example, Sam Bradford isn't light years better than Sanchez. In fact, of all the QB depth charts, I think this one is the closest. So I think Sanchez is probably where you'd see the least drop off from the starter to the 2nd string. But there are better back up QBs in the league than Mark Sanchez. Ryan Fitzpatrick would probably be at the top of the list but because Geno got knocked the &*%# out, he's now a starter.

Matt Hasselbeck, Mettenberger, Stanton and Glennon are all serviceable. And I kind of hope Brady is suspended at least a game or two because I've heard a ton of good things about Garopollo.

I've seen nothing from him. How many games has he even played in?

How many did TJ Yates play in before he led the Texans to a couple of victories that included a playoff game?

Sometimes the unknown can be a good thing.

Truthfully I threw his name out because I saw him throw a TD pass in their last preseason game. Probably meaningless.

Good point on TJ. And I agree that sometimes there are guys just needing to get some game time. Tom Brady anyone?

But for the purposes of ranking back ups, I figured the guys had to have proven at least something in the regular season.

I like Colt McCoy! He led the Skins to victory over the Cowboys last season. That was our BEST game all season!
