The best thing that should come out of Kenny Williams coming to the hill

We are of course happy that another perimeter shooter is on the team and all of those Yahoos who said Coach Williams can't recruit anymore have gone AWOL for some reason but to me this verbal to the school means something much more important.

Now possible recruits will have to factor in that if Kenny Williams has decided to go to Carolina that things on the hill might not be as bad as the national press has said it is.

Don't be surprised now if other recruits start making more unofficial trips to Chapel Hill.

I feel the door has been opened up and now with this verbal it is time to just blow the door off the hinges.

People have very short memories and the insiders sometimes get it wrong. I was told by someone who currently works in the basketball office in a Division 2 school in Maryland that the best insiders are the people that work in the basketball offices that overhear things and then make assumptions. He told me that their coaches NEVER tell other people that a certain player is leaning or will commit to their school, but he has overheard certain things and then make assumptions. In the case of Kenny Williams, his father didn't come on the OV to UNC with his son. I don't think many folks were mentioning this. Kenny says he has always been a UNC fan. Ingram says he has always been a Duke fan. Sometimes kids just want to go to a school that they have been fond of since grade school. On the other hand, the opposite has occurred (i.e. Pinson was Duke fan).

No doubt that Roy can recruit, but some fans get frustrated when they see 12 offers go out and the Heels strike out on all of them. And lets not quickly forget that if it was not for Shaka Smart leaving Virginia Commonwealth UNC would not be getting Kenny Williams. I think Roy was desperate and needed to make something happen and he did it.

As for future recruiting, Roy appears to be taking a new approach and maybe casting a wider net. He may make more offers for 2016. Bossi on the National Yahoo board is predicting Giles to Duke. We have to wait and see on that. By getting more offers out there he has a better chance of landing top players. Giles, Smith, Woods and Adeyebo are good players, but Roy can't let them hold him hostage.

The NCAA cloud is a problem. IMO, I think they are livid that Roy pulled this off. Also, perceived playing time has been an issue. 2016 is the year Roy needs to make a big haul. K was desperate after this season and he did what he has to do to get a projected top 10 team for the upcoming season. I think Roy was desperate the past few weeks to bring in a top player. Roy did that.

I will say that barring any major injuries to the Heels top players, anything short of a Final Four appearance this upcoming season will be a failure. The Heels must go out win all the pre-season games and get a #1 seed.....period, set, match!

I would like to think that the tide is turning in regards to recruiting but I won't believe that until we land a large class consisting of multiple 5 star kids. 2016 is the next chance to show that. And we'll need to as we'll be losing 4-6 players currently on the roster. 2016 needs to be a big class and it needs to be a good class. We don't need 5 top 20 players. But Roy needs to sign 2 top 10-15 players just for perception reasons.

Bam Bam - I like our chances.

Smith - like our chances better with duke getting Thornton but still don't love them.

Giles - not feeling good about him.

Woods - I think Kdub's signing ended the relationship between us and Woods.

Tatum - not likely.

Simmons - maybe but with Berry and Britt already on board and Felton the following year, just doesn't seem likely.

Bradley - I like our chances.

I don't even know who else we're going after. But the 2016 class seems light on wings which will be the position of most need.

Agree with one of the posters above, we need the NCAA to just make a decision before our recruiting gets back to normal. '16 should be interesting, so many recruits in our backyard that we should land a few.

The thought that Simmons cares about Britt is funny. Simmons is light years ahead of what Britt will ever be. If we land 2 out of 3 with Bam Bam, Smith, and Bradley I'll be very happy.
