Yep, it's a Miata with a different engine (1.4L turbo instead of the Miata's 2.0L, similar hp) and bodywork. Personally I prefer the Miata's styling.

The world needs more lightweight, rear-drive fun cars these days, so more power to 'em. Amazing that the new-gen Miata has essentially the same dimensions as the first-gen (ie. tiny) despite a couple decades of new safety regulations and technology to account for.
