Sorry, but I am at a loss here. I've been to several newer arenas and the Dome is still special by comparison.Should have been updated a long time ago. It's crazy how much has been done to Kenan while the Dean Dome is basically the same. At this point it might be too late to update it to what it should be. The problem is where do you build a new place without tearing the Dean Dome down. Might have to build off campus for that.
I agree .. needs a new big center scoreboard .. put some plexi glass to keep sound from going up to the dome just a few things that come to mindShould have been updated a long time ago. It's still a great place to see basketball. No bad viewing angles at all, but it needs to be more than what it is in today's world. It's not the 90's anymore. The concourse needs a complete remodel. The seats needed to be replaced a long time ago. A bigger locker room. Bigger players lounge that incorporates NIL help (the football lounge has a room specifically for recording podcast and videos). Needs to have a better student section. And like it or not there needs to be suites. The cost of doing a remodel to include all of that would be extremely expensive and I'm not even sure there's enough room to do it.Sorry, but I am at a loss here. Bingo. Internal cosmetics and modernized niceties can be added and tweaked, but no need to destroy a shrine.I agree. It does need work, no doubt about it, but once inside, it's a unique and special place.

I don't think anyone disagrees with that, but it's just extremely outdated. The question is what does it cost to upgrade it. If it is close to what it would cost to build a new place, then it doesn't make sense from a financial perspective to remodel it. We're getting into a logical vs emotional debate at that point.I agree. It does need work, no doubt about it, but once inside, it's a unique and special place.
Without being argumentative, the "emotional" is a much biiger part of what makes an arena special --- particularly a college arena --- than what makes financial sense.I don't think anyone disagrees with that, but it's just extremely outdated. I don't disagree with that. As I've said before on this board, I got to play on that floor, under all those jerseys, when I was younger in basketball camp. It's a very special place for me. It's my version of Carmichael. But emotional doesn't win in the real world. At some point the team has to move or get left behind. That's just how life goes.Without being argumentative, the "emotional" is a much biiger part of what makes an arena special --- particularly a college arena --- than what makes financial sense.
Should be strictly a financial calculation. Run an NPV with new revenues vs projected cost. It's a simple yes/no on whether the new arena pays for itself with additional revenue. As an alum of Carolina, l support the university in many ways, including financially.
l’m disinclined to see a new arena built with university funds. Spiff up DES, add more
techno wizardry, pleeeeeease get more students up close and personal, sure.
I think of how many scholarships could be provided for decades with the funds that a new arena would cost.
FIFYIt's better than Hansbrough Indoor Stadium.
I agree that it would be better to move the students, but it's going to be impossible to do because of the lifetime contracts. They would all have to agree to be moved to a suite (assuming there is enough suites) or wait around for them all to die.I can't access the article, so I'm not sure the points.
I think there are some options. The Dean Dome is approaching 40 years old, I would like to see the students around the floor more than now. Carmichael was an amazing environment and you lose "some" of that the larger you get. I would like to see 18k or so in seats and bleachers (standing for students) with some luxury suites as well.
