The Heels will win the ACC next season

If Justin returns the only position that's up in the air is SG. And the only reason that's up in the air is because we have an abundance of good choices for that position.

We'll start 2 seniors and at least 2 juniors. Mucho experience.

On the down side, several players will have to improve a good bit for the team as a whole to be as good as last season's squad.

The main difference will be less depth up front. It remains to be seen if our outside scoring will take a hit, but several players look poised to fill the gap left by Marcus's departure.

If Justin doesn't return, we'll be thinner up front - because he won't be available to slide into the 4 when needed. Justin not only brought scoring and decent defense, he moved well without the ball. He and Marcus were probably our best guys at that. So if they are both gone, the complexion of the team will change that way, too.

I'm surprised to see that neither of the mock drafts I check has Isaiah being drafted in 2017. I fully expect that to change. Because I expect him to thrive when the offense is built to suit his style better, rather than Brice's style. But I worry that those guys know more than I do and it isn't just a matter of him flying below their radar.

The competition for top spot is harder to figure.

Duke is loaded with talent and has abundant experience, too. But they have 2 key players coming off injury. And their top talent - 3 guys in the top 12 - lack experience. This team also has unusual depth (for a Duke team in recent years) and it's unclear what K will do with that much depth. We know Roy would take full advantage, but K seems to relegate perfectly good players to the bench early in the season and never look back. Plus the point position is unsettled. Despite the unanswered questions, they look like probable ACC leaders.

A few years ago most of us were wondering if Bennett was the real deal or just lucked out with players like Harris and Mitchell. But those stars left and UVa stayed good. And the next stars left and UVa was still good. I think that question is settled. They'll be in contention next season, too. I don't know how, but that looks like a safe bet.

Miami is once again devastated by the loss of experience and talent. Especially experience - with 3 senior starters graduating. They have a good incoming class, but not really enough to replace what's leaving. And yet, you can't count Larranaga out.

Duke can't be the best until those guys play college basketball , I cant just say great team until they play, with the Heels the Chemistry is already there...

FSU may give teams a tough time next year too. All 4 have questions though.

Yeah, even thou UVa lost a lot in Brogden, Gill, Nolte, and the 7ft kid; adding Nichols who I thought was a really good player for memphis and the freshman they are bringin from Indiana is a fantastic jump shooter. I think they are top 4 in the ACC.

Other than UNC and duke, the other team that I have my eye on is FSU, if they don't lose the young kid to the NBA, they may have so much talent that even Leonard Hamilton can't mess it up. But that was about what I said before last season so I did under estimate Hamilton's ability to screw things up then, maybe I make that same mistake now...LOL

I've given up on Hamilton. So of course this will be the year he finally gets things to click. They'll have some good talent. But I don't expect to see them in the top tier. If we play them at our place next year I'm not worried. If it's home-and-away, then maybe a little worried. But not too much.

I thought Beasley hired an agent. Assuming that's who you meant. They still have Bacon, who is good. And, as you and I have discussed for several years, if Ojo ever turns the corner, look out!

Does anyone really think Grayson Allen can go the entire season without tripping someone? I don't think he can. He will be a marked man and when he trips the next player he will be looking at a 5-10 game suspension. This will be one time that K will not be able to do anything about it.

That'd be cool but I'd prefer to see Theo do a Danny Green on Punkson....
