Previously when I reported on defensive end Derriyon Shaw, at the beginning of last month, there was one main omission -- a biggie. He's no longer in Georgia. He's in Nevada, having moved with his mother about half a year ago. I've been doing this long enough that something like that shouldn't have happened, but in my defense he didn't mention anything about it, his profiles online referenced Georgia residence and schooling, all of the schools recruiting him were in the east, his visits had been to eastern schools and -- well, just a weird convergence of information that didn't send up red flags.
Anyways, Charlton Warren visited this guy's school and that's extremely rare because I don't know that I ever remember hearing about a Tar Heel assistant coach in Nevada often. For Warren to make a visit out there means they probably like Shaw a lot and feel like he's a worthy time investment. They certainly aren't building a pipeline there. I'm guessing that was probably on the same western swing as his trip to Colorado for JoJo Domann.
Shaw has not visited UNC but he's likely to this summer. He misses life in the east and he now also has offers from Duke and Wake Forest, in addition to UNC. He's really blown up a bit with other offers like Washington, Arizona State and Boise State.
Once again, this is apparently a rare recruiting year because UNC seems to be very high on some lower-rated kids that actually have impressive offer sheets. Will be interesting to see if the rankings start to correlate more with the offers in time.
