I saw this movie this weekend, and I thought it was outstanding. I would say it's Matt Damon's best performance, and it's in the conversation for his best movie, but Good Will Hunting, Saving Private Ryan, The Departed, Ocean's 11 and Bourne are stiff competition. I would absolutely recommend seeing it on the big screen. There are really solid performances all around, and it's a very interesting story. I am planning to read the book as soon as possible.

Anyone else see this, or anything else recently?

I'm hoping to see this one ASAP, if it really gives Good Will Hunting a run for its money as his best movie then I will be seriously impressed. That's one of my favorite movies of all time.

I read the book and am going to see the movie this weekend. The book was great, especially if the idea of MacGyver on Mars appeals to you. Really looking forward to seeing what Ridley Scott does with the Martian landscape.

Also saw it this weekend on the big screen and it was well worth the ticket price.

It was impressed to learn how resilient duck tape is in the sub zero Martian temperatures:confused:

That might be a Mythbusters episode, haha. Of course, they've done some duct tape myths already, and it is quite durable.

Yeah, I think it's in the conversation, but he's got some great all time movies. That one is certainly hard to beat, Robin's so great in it. I personally think Damon is better here, but you can't go wrong with that performance and that movie.

I thought Scott did some really fun and exciting things as a whole. The shots of the horizon are pretty great, and definitely worth seeing on a large screen.

I'm excited to hear that his acting was actually on point and it wasn't just a masturbatory exercise by the CGI guys like most space movies are

Definitely a good movie. They may have got carried away with plastic and duct tape, but all in all it was a good movie. Long movie also.

Impressed sure, but certainly not surprised, right? Has there ever been a more effective, technologically advanced material than duct tape?

The movie reminded me of cast away, but on mars
There are definitely some similarities. There was a post on Reddit how this movie was basically a mash-up of every Tom Hanks movie ever. The basic ones that made sense were Cast Away (one person trying to survive), Apollo 13 (space mission goes wrong), and Saving Private Ryan (bringing Matt Damon home).
