The problem in all of this is that the white administration did not want to manage/oversee a black department head for fear of being labeled racist. Now we have the real racists MW and JS out there bashing young black men who are using their physical talents to try and better their lives. UNC made a mistake by not managing the AFAM department with true oversight. That is its only sin, being too politically correct to manage properly. The real sinners in all of this is Jay Smith and MW who are obviously racist bigots who do not want to give people who are less fortunate, who dId not grow up with parents who put them in the best schools, and who are trying to use what talents God gave them to get a better education and get out of the cycle of poverty. Yes they are underprepared and everyone knew that going in but no everyone is trying to make it sound like some travesty. That is the true narrative and the one that is the reality. Our university is just too dumb to push that narrative, or too scared.

UNC basketball was great without these classes. UNC football did fine without them as well. There were other easy classes on campus (and still are) that help keep people eligible for school. Notice I said school, not athletics. Some people need grades for scholarships, parents, or frats to stay eligible for funding or other perks. It is the way things are when you are dependent on others for your meal ticket. Those young men and women are just smart enough to utilize every tool at their disposal to use the university to maximize their value so that they can come out the other side and succeed. This wont stop no matter what the school, MW, or the NCAA does.

Anyone who thinks an AFAM type program is as easy to scrutinize as any other is fooling themselves. It doesn't excuse it but probably made it easier for those who perpetrated it to do so.

Same with Theatre, Women's Studies, etc. Let's be honest, it's all open for loose interpretation.

Agreed, anyone remember Radio, TV, Motion Pictures as a major....
