My favorite story is about a reserve named Ricky Webb. He thought he could beat the system, and planned his move. He got put in the game and after only a couple possessions, he flashed the tired sign. He came out, and then put himself back in. Some of the other players, in on the scheme, started laughing. Dean caught on, and when Webb flashed the tired sign again, Dean took him out
When Webb tried to put himself back in, Dean told him to just sit right there. He thought his goose was cooked, and sure enough, at practice the next day, he had to put on the ankle weights and weighted vest and run the Carmichael steps...for the whole practice. It ended and everyone else went to the showers, but Ricky was still running. Dean came out, and the exhausted Webb was sure he was getting ready to get kicked off the team, so he figured what the heck.....He looked at Dean and flashed the tired sign again. Dean cracked up and told young Ricky to hit the showers.
