Brice Johnson and Kennedy Meeks dominated the game in the paint on both sides of the court and if they can stay out of foul trouble they will be double trouble for every team they face. Yes I realize it was just the first game and Temple was missing some big but anyone who were lucky enough had to be impressed with Meeks demanding the ball down in the blocks and going hard to the basket. His stamina also looked good as he got rewarded several times for running hard on the break. Brice also looked like a beast in the paint as he scored at will. If the guards can continue to hit from the outside the twin towers will have monster seasons with no double teams.

Our bigs are going to be great this year! A special year in the making? Side note: we seem to be shooting many more hook shots this year and I love it. Someone(May?), has really been working with our bigs on their inside game.

I was at the game and had pretty good seats. They packed 6,000 folks in the little arena. Lots of UNC fans!

The bigs looked good. Meeks still looks like he can't jump over a quarter. To me, that is the only flaw in his game at this point. Brice is a man among boys until his last play. Brice needs to take a note from Theo's playbook. When Theo stuck that dagger at the end of the first half, he simply turned and walked away. To me, that shows dominance more than yelling and draping your legs over someone. Brice simply got caught up in the moment I suppose

I'm probably in the minority, but I want Brice playing with fire like that. Some guys need that and Brice is one of them. I'd much rather have Brice screaming and involved than quiet and invisible on the stat sheet. If you don't want legs near your face, then don't get dunked on! I want to see this team play with reckless abandon and swagger all season long! I'm over polite, soft Carolina basketball!

Let's Go Heels!!!

Kennedy's improvement in conditioning is apparent. His agility is better as well. But no, he will never be a high riser. I couldn't care less as long as he scores and rebounds like last night.

I was also VERY happy with Hicls. He looked quite polished and improved at finishing with interior moves. If/ when Meeks and Brice have to sit, Hicks is a very viable inside scoring option.

Agree, he didn't hit anyone and the Heels need someone with mean streak in them.

Meeks success in the NBA will have little to do with his jumping ability because he cannot jump...period. He will make it in the NBA by blocking out and using his massive frame to position for rebounds and some easy putbacks. He will not be able to force his shots up in the NBA with players much taller and athletic. I saw three improvements in Meeks game last night that will put him in a better position to be successful in the NBA:

1. Hitting the 10-20 foot jumpers on a consistent basis
2. Stamina to run the court without having to be removed from the game
3. The quick 360 degrees spin moves underneath the basket

I don't think there should be any more questions on why Roy is busting his butt to sign more bigs for next year. If Meeks continues to improve in the 3 areas above he may not stick around for senior year.

That may indeed be a wise plan.

Love our bigs. They have skill and personality. I think Hicks seems to have a steep learning curve.

I'll never complain about one of our guys hanging nuts on the opposition with a dunk. Sure beats the alternative....

As pukies well know, UNC has a tradition of "teabaggin'" less manly competition!

If Brice channels all his passion, he will be the beast Roy sees inside him. I'd rather have a guy make a mistake out of playing hard and with passion than to have him make them out of timidity!

And all our bigs played aggressively so I'm pleased!
