THI has learned from sources close to the situation that true freshman quarterback Chazz Surratt has been asked not to play basketball for the hoops Tar Heels this season so he can concentrate on football in the advent that Mitch Trubisky leaves for the NFL.
Originally, Surratt was going to play both football and basketball, but with Trubisky incredible season and sharp scent up the NFL prospect ladder, it has become clear that he will have to make a decision about his future at the end of the season. Renowned ESPN analyst rates Trubisky the top QB that would be available if he chooses to leave.
So, the staff needs Surratt to focus on football and be with the team for off season conditioning and workouts beginning in January and not with the basketball team. Aside from Trubisky, the only other scholarship QBs in the program are sophomore Nathan Elliott (second on the depth chart), Surratt and true freshman Logan Byrd.
